COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
More than 1,500 loyal fans of the brewery and band suggested an ingredient idea and the Dead-inspired story behind it. Our favorite was granola, from California Dead Head and craft beer lover Thomas Butler. “The components of granola – honey, toasted grains, oats and fruit – offer a lot from a beer perspective,” says Thomas, a chemist by day, homebrewer by night. “The idea is to have a bold pale ale that highlights the oats and honey with a nice ‘dank’ hop selection.” American Beauty is brewed with all-American malts and hops, granola and little bit of soul. It’s malty with a big hop kick, and notes of toasted almond and honey round out the flavor profile and balance out the hop bitterness.

Nice amber hue and golden head for this well crafted brew. Oats, granola notes with a nice hop balance. Finishes on the floral side.

Sample at the Tehachapi Beer & Wine Festival on 07/18/2015: Clear golden color with a medium foamy white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing. Aroma of piney hops, fruit and malt. Medium to full body with flavors of herbal hops, roast malt and fruit. The finish is mildly dank with a resiny hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Pours a brilliant copper with an off white head of big foamy bubbles. Aromas are simple and fresh: caramel, floral, dough, and some alcohol. Taste is near perfectly balanced. Wonderfully clean palate with a nice long bitter finish. Awesome!

Really smooth and malty. You can taste the granola and honey with out an overpowering note. Just enough hops. I’m not a fan of browns but this is in a class of its own. Happily surprised.

Low fill 750ml bottle pours with a clear copper body that supports a thin light tan head. The aroma offers up soft sweet berry and dark grape notes edged by thin fruity tartness and then to a lesser extent sugary maltiness toward the end of the draw. The taste begins sweet with grape and sugary berry notes heading toward a mild spicy woodiness. As it warms the fruity sensation and woodiness begin to reveal a sweet nuttiness amid berries and grapes and then bitter grapefruit like hoppiness. Decent. It doesn’t enter the realm of harmony anywhere along the journey though as internal conflict rules the day.

Poured from bottle into snifter a nice gold with some tan head. Aroma was malt heavy, grains and honey. Taste was malt, honey, slightly pine hoppy. Has a sweetness in the draw but bitters near the finish. Just a small amount of basement funk. Slightly oily in the mouth. For a Dead beer I think granola was perfect choice.

Strong beer. Lots of honey, some lemon, danker hops, still pretty drinkable. What a long strange trip.

Orange and clear pour with foamy sticky off white head. Had this as part of a draft flight at Jerrys in Andersonville. Super fruity, vanilla, yogurt, orange and a little hops. Delicious

Clear golden. Tangy. Citrus hops with a little lemon. Definite wheat backbone. Dry aftertaste.

Overall it's a decent beer but has flaw including a astrigent paper like ending. Nice brown color with a smooth finish ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
