mspindler (301), Alta Loma, California, USA Apr 25, 2009 Pours a crystal clear copper color with a big off white head. Aroma is extremely fruity with apricots and citrus and not much else. Flavor is obviously apricots, some sweet bready and caramel malts, some citrus and pine from the hops, which are subtle. Lacks the typical bitterness of an IPA. Palate is full but not sticky and there’s no lack of carbonation. Taverner (825), San Ramon, California, USA Apr 25, 2009 Pours a clear copper with a lot of head, and carbonation. Aroma is slightly funky, but mostly piney and resinous. Flavor is lightly sweet with notes of said apricots. Has a clean finish. A rather boring IPA - listed as a "fruit beer" and once again RB misses the ship. JoeTheYounger (217), California, USA Apr 25, 2009 Copper clear color with thick intense head. Hints of apricots and hops in the aroma. The apricot flavor balances the overall hop experience but is very nice. Very good carbonation and not too sweet. Oscbert (531), Sacramento, California, USA Apr 24, 2009 ~Pours a beautiful clear amber with small white head.
~Apricot fruit scent with strong dirty hop scent.
~Interesting flavor. Tart from the apricots and bitter from the hops. I quite like it.
~Light feel, fizzy with nice bittersweet finish.
~I’m not really sure that a flute glass was the best choice for this one. Nonetheless I was pleasantly surprised. Quite enjoyable. jeff789 (357), Pennsylvania, USA Apr 24, 2009 Pours a ruby/amber with a thin head... Aroma is quite fruity with a subtle note of hops... Flavor is much of the same, very sweet/syrupy yet the palate is kind of spritzy for a 7% not quite IPA... Hoppiness leaves hops to be desired, i dont understand how this year they can claim this to be an IPA.... I think magic hat #9 is hoppier than this this year... Enjoyed it in the past and hopefully will enjoy it again next year, but they definitely missed the mark in 09... stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Apr 24, 2009 12 oz bottle from Bev4less. Pours a copper color with a medium beige head that soon dissipated. The aroma was initially disturbing with a cooked vegetable quality, but as it warmed I was able to pick out some apricots and persimmons. The taste was all apricots set in a overtly sweet malt base. The finish was short and sweet. The mouthfeel was thin and slightly watery with just a bit of grit on finish. Overall: Like other DFH brews, it is an interesting novelty. SHANER4 (370), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Apr 23, 2009 bottle 12 oz - Poured clear lighter copper color with small white head.
Aroma - I think it smells like apricots, pears and herbal hops.
Flavor - Different flavor at first but turned out pretty tastey. Definite spring or summer brew. The semi-sweet apricot flavor stands out along with some pear taste. Hard to believe this is 7%, tastes more like 4% abv.
Palate - light/medium slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Finish is somewhat dry and has strange aftertaste.
Overall - Good but not great beer. Probably would not buy again but worth a try if you like fruit beers. Hopeye (39), Oregon, USA Apr 23, 2009 I’m not usually one for fruit beers, but this one is pretty damned tasty. Made me want to brew up some fruity IPAs.
