Dogfish Head ApriHop

Not as good as I remembered from the last time. Poured with nice head. Expected a much stronger apricot and/or IPA smell than I found. Taste was nice but either apricot or classic DFH IPA taste could have been more prevalent.

bottle. i like that my style of beer pours with an orange tint on a honey-amber hue. it’s taken me less than 200 beers to realize that. the aroma is subtly reminiscent of an ipa, but with floral accents and yes, chewy dried apricots. the taste is mellowed from the 90 min, but there is also less bittering hops. the finish is really rather fruity, and that’s where i think the aprihop excels when compared to other fruit beers or just ipas. it’s a complex concoction that bridges the two together, but tastefully. it’s not the best brew i’ve had, but it’s rather easy to throw back more than a few of these in one sitting. it’s simply, a groovy beer, for groovy people.

The apricots come through in the finish. There is a roasted malt presence and a coffee finish.

Being a huge fan of Dogfish Head beers and not a fan of IPAs created a pickle for me. I’m glad I tried this beer. Orangish-amber in the glass with a small white head that leaves decent lacing. Aroma of hops, a little apricot, and a bit of a burnt smell. Strong but smooth all the way through. Lots of hops, some malt, and of course the apricot. Finishes very smooth for such a strong alcohol content. Another good beer from a great brewer.

12 oz. bottle Let me start by saying that I fine the brews from Dogfish Head to be truly solid if not excellent. I love the fact that they are willing to be daring in their attempts. I have not rated in a while which is a shame because I have been busy trying quite a few beers. It just got the to point that rating was taking too much time. Anyways here goes. Aroma: Not as hoppy as I expected but it is present with a undercurrent of honey and the apricots. Appearance: Clear, bright orange with a smallish lingering head. Flavor: Here is where you get the hops. It is bitter and dry and just underneath it you can taste the sweet fruitiness of the apricots. Palate: The bitterness lingers on your tongue for an exceptional amount of time. Finishes somewhat dry but not overly so. Overall: I could see drinking a lot of this beer and never knowing that apricots were part of the recipe. It is quite tasty and enjoyable if you like a good bitter IPA, which I certainly do. Another fine offering from Dogfish Head.

12 ounce bottle- had in fridge since mid April. Figured good time to quaff last one. Nice looking beer- orange/red amber and good clarity. No head to speak of and minimal lacing. The apricots really show up in the nose of the beer. Taste- the fruit is well blended with the IPA. Very balanced and quite tasty. I think the fruit is showing up more now than when I first purchased it. Nice level of hops, and not too much that could interfere with the apricot flavour. Malts are well done here as well. Drinkability suffers some due to it being 7%. Its a dangerous 7% beer- comes off more like a session ale. One of the better DFH offerings I’ve tried to date.

Pours a nice copper color with off white head. Excellent lacing. A nice lighter IPA. Apricots are there although not at all overpowering. Malty aroma, not heavy on the hops. Taste finished a little sweet. A different take on an IPA...I like it, but Dogfish Head has some better ones out there.

For an IPA, I’d expect more head. Poured with a smallish head. Taste backbone was similar to 60m IPA but with Apricots readily discernable. I’m not a fan, usually, of fruity beers, but this was not overdone. I liked this beer quite a bit. Very refreshing taste.
