luvcasks (178), USA Jun 17, 2007 Low base malt some citrusy hop and light caramel with some biscuity notes
Pours a crystalline amber with a light tan moussy head
Very nicely layered in the flavor department... starts with a quick note of base malt then followed with a very wonderfully fresh apricot/peach flavor which gives way to a nice dry biscuity flavor yielding to a firm slightly resiny/spicy hop finish
Finish is long and varies between toast, hop and improbably some residual peach like flavors very well done.
I tried this on the deck of a mail boat off of Portland ME harbor on a sunny day... incredibly tasty.
No I would not mistake it for an american IPA but nonetheless has a lot going for it... the fresh fruit flavor is what is remarkable DogFishDE (5), Delaware, USA does not count Jun 15, 2007 Great mix of apricots (unique choice) into an IPA. Classic DFH IPA taste with a refreshing touch of apricots to make it stand out. Not as hoppy but it doesnt take away from the experience. JoeinUccle (902), Brussels, Belgium Jun 14, 2007 I expected a fruity beer and instead found a refreshing session beer with character. Amber color, not much head, faint hoppy aroma with fainter fruit notes. This is essentially an American IPA where the apricots provide only a backdrop, rather than a distraction, to the mildly hoppy flavor. I didn’t find it to be particularly sweet. This would be a kick-ass match for any tajine dish that includes dried apricots. Really a solid and interesting quaffer. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jun 13, 2007 well i must say, this is disapointing. it looks good, but doesnt taste great. aroma is pretty bland. i’m getting a TINY bit of apricot. and some malt, surprisingly i detect no hops. quite odd......flavour is sweet, and yes, there is apricot, but again, i’m getting no hoppiness from a so call STRONG IPA, disapointing brew. grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Jun 11, 2007 I didn’t notice anything in this one except the apricot. A whole lot of sweetness. This wasn’t extremely bitter, but the strong bitterness and the sweet apricot didn’t mix well for me. glkaiser (1150), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 10, 2007 Medium copper with medium white head. Aroma of....oh my god....apricot! Good apricot and sweetness in the taste, but very bitter finish. I think I’d enjoy this more if it were a bit lighter. Something just isn’t right about this. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Jun 9, 2007 A sweet IPA, with a definite apricot flavor. I normally do not like apricots. But, the flavor is not overpowering and mixes well with the hops. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Jun 8, 2007 12-oz. Ugh. Apricots. I knew I daren’t have tried this. Pours a gorgeous ruby medium amber, crystal clear, moussy white head that doesn’t stick around or leave much lace. Musty dried apricot nose. Big fizzy medium-bodied attack. Weird confluence of puckery apricots and grapefruity hop. Yeesh. Please make the bad beer stop.
