3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I remember trying this beer a few years ago and not thinking it was all that good. Not sure if it’s changed or I have, but this is tasty! Clear copper/amber color with an off-white head. I couldn’t really detect any apricot in the aroma, but I swear there was a mild bacon scent in there along with toasted malt. The malt is very forward on the taste with caramel and a little butterscotch. The hops step right up after this with an earthy, almost mushroomy quality (in a good way). Then, finally, the fruit hits. Not sure if I’d peg it as apricot specifically without knowing it’s in there, but definitely stone fruit with a slight sour edge to it. A light soy sauce saltiness seems to sneak in here too. There’s a little alcohol bite which really compliments the other components and flavor. Finishes with a sour fruitiness and slight vegetal bitterness. Delicious and interesting.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft. Bronze color with off-white head and some lacing. Malt aroma. Tastes more like an amber ale. Apricot not all that noticeable; hole flavor underwhelming. Overall, disappointing, especially for Dogfish Head.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Deep orangey-gold pour, medium off-white head. Nose is caramelly malt, some grain, and dried apricot with a hint of wet cardboard. Mouth is more of the same. I dig me some DFH brew, but this particular one is average at best. Just an FYI... this is not a Fruit Beer. Besides being misclassified (this is an IPA) ’fruit beer’ is the stupidest (and laziest) fucking category on RateBeer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours an amber-golden with a creamy light tan head. Tangy nose. Full, soft mouthfeel with some scrubbing carbonation. I pick up the apricot flavor. Some citrus gets involved as well. A little confusing on the palate, but not bad.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Amber pour, quick white head. Nose is caramel malt, whiff of alcohol. Bitter. Middle is malt backbone, very soft apricots, something vaguely vegetal. Finish shows bitterness from alcohol and hops. Not my favorite Dogfish offering.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma is sweet malty and fruity. There’s not that much in the aroma that gives away the apricots though. Taste is heavy and distinct. Caramels and malts sets like a lump of wood in the center of the mouth, and it’s not super hoppy but the hops are there. I was expecting much more apricots in here, they are there, but they don’t take over. In the aftertaste I actually catch a sting of alcohol, but the pleasant bitterness weighs more and this is an excellent beer. Not the best, but really good.
