Pours a nice golden orange hue. nice white head with tight carbonation. nice aroma of citrus hop notes, but the apricots are in there and go along very nicely with the citrus hops. Good balance and mouthfeal is very good. Thanks to Erway for bringing this one for the gathering at Whaleman's place! scraff (1955), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 13, 2004 Sparkling dark amber, thin white head. Sweet notes of citric fruit and malt, crossed with a slight apricot undertone. Seems more like a balanced IPA then a typical fruit beer. Flavors of spicy grapefruit just seem to to blend well with the apricot. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry finish. Would be happy to drink this one here and there throughout the summer months. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 9, 2007 12 oz. bottle shared with Padrefan98. Nice apricot aroma off this golden orange pour. But the flavor seemed a little too sweet and almost like imitation apricots. Maybe I am used to the way that some hops give off an apricot aroma/flavor and have come to expect and love that so much that real apricots just don’s seem quite right.... strange.. still not bad though. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Pours a clear, bubbly orange/amber colour with no head. Barely noticeable lacing, but virtually no head. Aroma is faint of apricots and lime- thats about it. Taste is again, tangy- citrusy, little hops, but more tang than anything. I don’t want to say sour- but something like that. Mouthfeel is light (seems to be the theme of this beer) but well rounded. Overall, I enjoyed it, i like most of what I have had from DFH, however, this could use a little more improvement in my opinion. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 1, 2004 Deep orange, thick, creamy off-white head. Nose marginally apricot, smells mostly traditionally IPA-esque, citric and hoppy, some malts are noticeable. Quite hoppy in the flavor, perfumed and crisp, nice apricot character blending well with the sweetness of the finishing malts. Nicely dry at the end. Rather creamy, good palate. Apricots are typically not particularly exciting, but I’m willing to be excited about this one. tronraner (1939), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 22, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours amber-orange with thin but tight off-white head. The aroma is definitely apricots, with some cinnamon and spicy hop notes. The flavor is sweet, with the apricot obvious but not overwhelming like other apricot brews I’ve had. The sweetness fades to hoppy bitterness on the way to the finish, typical Cascade flavor comes out. Leaves a dry aftertaste with some lingering fruitiness. Pretty good, but I think I would rather have a straight IPA of this caliber. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 6, 2005 Looks exactly like an apricot IPA should - hazy pale orange. Booming, frothy, pale orange head; very creamy with lovely thick lacing. Smells distinctly hoppy with subtle dried fruit esters contributing toward a sweet floral aroma. First taste impression is that this tastes like a moderately mellow IPA; reminds me of Sweetwater’s IPA. Lively and hoppy when it first hits the palate, but the dried fruit ensemble helps back off the initial hop/carbonation blast. The unmistakable traces of apricots help add some other underlying flavors, such as citrus and cedar elements, and eventually evolve the beer to be more warming. That’s also when the familiar Dogfish Head ABV twang comes through and is most perceptible. Overall, I’d say that this beer is 85% IPA, 15% fruit beer. Unique and enjoyable. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 26, 2005 Pours a dark amber body with a nice head. Aroma reeks of apricots, but also aroma is citrusy in general. Dogfish head certainly knows how to brew their IPAs. Flavor is a middle range IPA with hints of apricot. The alcohol % is somewhat noticeable, but not obvious - It’s only 7%. Nice brew.
