4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Cornboy (422) - Eastampton, USA - MAY 2, 2004
UPDATED: DEC 28, 2004 Had to rerate this years batch, much better than last year. Color matches what you expect to taste, but the fun label is gone :( No more bolstering my bluster, now its just "an ale brewed with currants"
A bit more tart this year, and loads more flavor. Nice job!!
Very drinkable, I am a fan of fruit beers (sweet or sour) though.
I am officially making this my summer beer (while it lasts!). I have noticed a big difference though between bottles, same temp, etc. Might be improperly cared for at the liquor store.
Nose was more grapey than currant, but the taste was right-on! A slight tart currant/cherry flavor. Typically I see fruit used in wheats, this was a great alternative. Be careful, its only a few percent more alcohol than a standard beer, but it will catch up to you!
I wish this was a year round offering!!!!
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 nike (504) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 5, 2011
When this beer first appeared several years ago (around 10) I really enjoyed this beer. I don’t know if the recipe has changed over the years, but today it’s much fruitier than I remembered. A fruity aroma but no malt or hop aroma and little currant. Finish has some citrus. I remember liking this beer a lot, that’s why I had to get another bottle, but, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was hoping. If you like fruity beer, this is for you.

Gift. First off I’m not a fruit beer lover, but it’s Dogfish and it’s a rating.
Red/ orange pour with big notes of fruit. Synthetic fruity taste with a tart finish. It was good for the style.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 corby112 (1904) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 13, 2011
Pours a dark golden orange color with burnt orange hues when held to a light source and a frothy, pillowy two finger off-white head. Very god retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap. Large chunks of lacing left behind.
Very sweet dark fruit aroma with subtle hops, caramel malt and sweet alcohol. Slightly spicy with a bit of pepper that accompanies the apple and currants.
Medium bodied with slight oxidization up front. It’s still very sweet with lots of caramel apple and vinous dark fruit. Unfortunately the alcohol hasn’t mellowed much, adding heat and more sweetness. Stale hop profile which is understandable considering the age. Hints of grape, currant, apple and grape along with spicy pepper. Dry finish.
I was glad to try this beer but it kind of tastes like spicy, alcoholic apple cider.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 markwise (2914) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - OCT 1, 2010
Thanks to Degarth for the share. Pours hazy orange red with a small white head. Nose is wine-like: vinous fruit, tartness, currants, and oxidation. Flavor is similar with lots of tart wine character with um, currants. I am glad I got to try it: I can certainly take it off of my wants.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 HonusWagner (796) - Florida, USA - SEP 19, 2010
Bottle shared by Joey at a very fun tasting, never thought I’d get to try this one! Obviously a very small pour, but it stuck out as being a slightly oxidized belgian gold with some interesting fruity sweetness and a bit of lingering tartness. A beer that was probably very fun and explosively flavorful when it came out, and one I wouldn’t mind seeing remade.
