Very quick head, zero carbonation after initial pour, light honey and belgian yeast in the nose. Honey and bubble gum in the finish. This is one of those brews that make a great beverage but not so much a beer. I would drink again.

On tap at the Knick. Coriander, sassafras, teaberry, and bubblegum. Sweet and spicy. Dark coppery amber-brown clear with thin head. Medium body with mild carbonation. Starts sweet with honey and sugar tang. Herbal, fruity with alcohol warming. Sweet tang in the after, honey. Just a little cloying.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: FEB 1, 2014 Neat idea - bad beer. +++ Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a caramel-amber color with a small foamy white head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was medicinal with notes of apple and pepper. The flavor was apple, almost cinnamon, a fairly strong medicinal presence, pepper and some perfume. Long apple and medicine finish. Medium body. Not good at all.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle: It’s a beautiful mahogany, red color with quickly disappearing tan foam. Smells of honey, florals, some spice and wood, dark fruit. comments from wifey, "It smells like nag champa. It tastes like a dirty hippy." The flavor is fruit and honey sweetness with just a bit of tartness, dark brown sugar, a bit of powdery toasty bitterness. Also a touch of woody spice blending with a slightly numbing medicinal quality. I like it, reminds me of a dubbel, but less heavy on the un-aged sweetness, and with a slightly medicinal quality. It’s all over the place, yet cohesive, considering origin. Slightly syrupy with very lively, quick carb. The lingers with a sweet, fruity note. What a wild style.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
1pt 9.4fl oz bottle poured into an English pint. Bronze with an ample amount of quickly fading off-white lively head. Aroma is grape and some sort of spice. Flavor is sour grapes and slight honey. Finish is muted cinnamon and dirt. Very interesting brew; I really like this. Another win for Sam's Ancient Ales.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft to taster. Looks good; a transparent bronze with off-white lacing. Smells solid; dark fruit, spices, and what seems like Belgian yeast; maybe a bit of toastiness too. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Pretty good.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottled sample from Specks in San Antonio. Pours pinkish with minimal head. Tough to describe this one as they were so many flavours, pomegranate, honey, etc... Very complex Very interesting .

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bronze and clear, nothing special about the head or lacing, in fact there wasn’t much notable there.
Appearance aside, the typical dogfish head aroma and flavor come through with the usual elevated expected value. Fruit and honey come through immediately and are the natural descriptions for this beer, but there’s also a somewhat funky, earthy, floral component that’s hard to put my finger on. It may be this indescribable, yet awesomely delicious aspect of DFH ales that makes me love this brewery so much.
Body is really pretty light considering the fairly ample alcohol content and full flavor. Drinks way too easy. Always luv DFH ales.

Pours a dark amber with minimal white head. Smells of honey and fruit with some earthiness. Tastes sweet like juice but definitely not too sweet. Well done.
