This is definitely one of the more interesting beers of DFH’s Ancient Ale line. The beer poured an amber color with a bronze hue. There was a decent amount of head when I poured the beer into the glass, but it disappeared pretty quickly. There wasn’t any lacing left around the glass, either. The nose is very interesting, with notes of pomegranates, nuts, grapes, yeast and grains. The body is very spritzy, with a strong feeling of carbonation. The flavors taste of pomegranates, grapes, nuts, light raisins, yeast, caramel malt and a hint of clover. The beer finishes on the sweet side, tasting similar to a sparkling wine or champagne. I sensed more nuttiness and a dryness in the aftertaste. This brew is so unique brew, I’m finding it very difficult to put a score in some of these categories. It’s very good, but I’m not sure I would purchase another bottle.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured orange-red with an extremely fizzy head that faded fast, there are so many aromas going on here, mostly fruit and sweetness, I’m picking up grape, some sort of dark fruit juice and alcohol is noticable. The taste is fruit forward with a lot of vinous character, almost like if you mixed beer and wine, also it is very sweet I’m assuming because of the honey. The mouth feel is medium to light and heavily carbonated. Overall very interesting and one of a kind. If I had to compare this to anything else it is similar to midas touch in some ways.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aromas of pomegranates, red berries, bananas, and raisins. Clear light red, head foam vanishes quickly, but bubbles constantly. Some sweetness, some tartness, and some farmhouse funkiness. Medium-full bodied, moderate carbonation, and has a dry, fruity finish.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Thanks to JPDurden24 for sharing this. It pours with a copper colored body supporting a light tan head. The aroma is all candy and fresh Hubba Bubbu bubble gum. Hmm the gum note could also leaned toward the gum you used to get in a pack of trading cards back in the late ‘70s. Alright, this is so sugary bubble gum I really can’t get anything else anymore. The taste is straight up Hubba Bubba bubble gum mixing with light amounts of the odd spice or two, some honey and then a ginger sensation into the finish. Interesting and just too reminiscent of sugary bubble gum from my youth for me.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Aroma: Very complex and winey aromas--dried fruit, honey, berry with hints of earthy yeast aromas.
Appearance: Clear bright amber with minimal head.
Taste: Medium-heavy sweetness with light bitterness and medium sourness to balance.
Palate: Full body, thick oily texture, soft carbonation, long fruity finish.
Overall: Wow! This has so many flavors working with each other and against each other. Every sip reveals something different, but still in harmony with the others. Nothing unpleasant here, though a bit too fruity for my taste. Still, this is really well done.

25 jan 2013, bottle. Light copper, clear, no bubbles. Nose is cloves, grape kook-aid, sweet malt. Odd. Ned body and fizzy. White grape, maybe pomegranates, slightly tart notes, a bit estery. Reminds me of another DFH ancient ale but I can't remember which. The more I drink the more I can deal with it. But it was quite odd at first.

Draft: Okay...I stole a few sips of this from my friend...the head had dissipated by the time I sampled it but the beer was deep golden and fairly clear.
The nose really took me by surprise. At first I was overwhelmed a bit by the malty-yeastiness but as I took it in...lots of honey and clover. Interesting spicy notes I can’t quite describe. Would love to try again (and not after a Bitches Brew and Olde School)
Medium body and light carbonation. Felt smooth. One of the most unique beer tasting experiences I have had in awhile.
