dekeq (34), New Jersey, USA Nov 2, 2009 Yet another fine Dogfish Head brew. Poured out into the glass, it produced a nice golden hue with a little red to it. It was translucent and it had little to no head. Being a fruit beer, what I tell you it smelled like is pretty redundant. It smelled like fruit. Duh. It had a very nice clear scent with just bits of hops but it was mostly sweet and smelled like blue and blackberries. Tasting it, I got a nice hit of blueberries. It was a very sweet brew with little to no taste from the alcohol (which is surprising being at almost 8%). There is a little bit of barley at the end to remind you that it is, in fact, brew. The texture was very very smooth. It had a nice gather of carbonation and air to start, flowing nicely into a palate of flavors and it finished off with a handful of hops. jmm635 (247), Havertown, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 2, 2009 Poured a clear reddish amber with a vanishing head. Sweet berry aroma with a similar tart flavor. Light body. It’s not bad, just not my thing. KornDogg (164), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 31, 2009 Bottle. amber hue with thin head...fruity aroma... flavor filled with sweet berries and a tart finish... well balanced beer that hides the alcohol content drjay44 (752), Salida, Colorado, USA Oct 30, 2009 750 ml. bottle. Shared with Gabe. Pours a thin head, over a slightly cloudy, reddish amber (SRM 10-12).....nose is slight fruit (blueberry, blackberry), bit of funk, some light spice....taste is light fruits, bit of Belgian funk (almost Brett like), finishing with hop bitterness, dry throughout....mouth feel is light, carbonation medium high. This is a very interesting beer. The fruit flavors are very lightly done and are quite delicious. There is bit of Belgian funk which adds tang and character. The alcohol is well hidden. Chapel (327), Levittown, New York, USA Oct 28, 2009 Part of a backlog. Bottle. Pours a dark but clear cherry, almost purple. Nose is strongly of blueberries and the flavor does not disappoint. Finish is rather dry and spiced with what I think is cloves. mjs (1439), Helsinki, Finland Oct 25, 2009 (Bottled one which I shared with two Swedes at Ginger Man, NYC) Poured with amber colour and hazy. Head was white and small. Blueberries dominated the aroma which had also fruity notes. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Taste included malts, blueberry, raspberry, fruitiness, bittereness and Belgian type of yeastiness. Aftertaste was mostly of berries. I liked. corby112 (647), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 21, 2009 Pours a cloudy dark ruby/cherry red that is completely opaque with a thin fizzy slightly pink head that quickly fades into a thin lasting ring. Very minimal spots of lacing.
Slightly sour fruit berry aroma with some tart funkiness, spice and dark berries. The blackberries and blueberries are prominent but there is also a bit of raspberry.
Very carbonated up front with some slight sour acidic tartness with a sweet medium body that is dominated by dark berry fruit and a slightly spicy finish. The alcohol is very well masked making this beer pretty quaffable. The sweetness of the blackberries and blueberries is no cloying or artificial which is always a plus but is still a bit too much for my liking. An interesting experiment but not something I would seek out again, especially at the high price point. caesar (3014), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Oct 16, 2009 Bottled. Clear orange color, short head. Aroma of fruit, sweet, bit malt, bit liquor. Artificial fruity barley wine. Some clove.
