glennmastrange (809), hobe sound, Florida, USA Feb 26, 2009 Bottle. Moderate malt note of grain, grass for the hops, light earth for the yeast, with strong smells of grape, wine, berry and a hint of vinegar. Head is large, fizzy, white with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is sparkling clear light burgundy. Flavor is lightly sweet and moderately acidic to start, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, oily and has a lively to fizzy carbonation. Although not my idea of "beer" it did have some interesting and pleasant qualities. Rustyham (552), miami, Florida, USA Feb 22, 2009 I liked the idea behind this, but it is too muddied up .Slight hints of fruit, but not clean or precise. Dissappointing. Holdwine (905), Beertimore, Maryland, USA Feb 22, 2009 Maybe I don’t "get it", but this struck me as a chemistry experiment gone bad. Some fruity notes greet you upon opening. It was downhill from there. Cloying is used in many of the reviews, and I tend to agree, only not in a good way. Smith Brothers would have rejected this concept as the flavors just don’t meld together and compete with the high ABV. Couldn’t finish it, but it gets points for trying. blutt59 (2045), Dallas, Texas, USA Feb 21, 2009 bottle, pinkish orange with floaties, faint berry and alcohol nose, light flavors of cough syrup, berries some orange rind, well constructed finish GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA Feb 19, 2009 Pours an amber color with a slightly colorful tint. Aroma is full of vanilla with some graham cracker and lots of berries. Flavor is almost like desert. Lots of berries and vanilla. RollinHard (750), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Feb 17, 2009 Thanks to moejuck for this bonus beer, the rating is well overdue. Pours...I forget exactly how cause I didn’t take notes on that. Aroma of tangy wheat, pungent earthy yeast, slight grapeskin fruit, and a bit of berry as it warms. Subtle overall. Tastes of wheat, caramel, pretty pungent yeast, hay, chardonnay, hints of clove. Cloying caramel and wheat finish, not much in hops. Any hint of berries is incredibly vague and only noticable in the aroma. Medium bodied, not much heat, and kinda slick in texture. Definitely more of an imperial wit than a fruit beer. Okay. BrotherGrendel (551), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 9, 2009 a- pours a somewhat cloudy rose/amber hue, two fingers of off-white creamy head and fair lacing throughout
s- nose is surprisingly dominated by caramel malt with very subtle tones of the fruits after which it is named (raspberry and blueberry), light alcohol presence is in contrast with 11% abv
t- initial taste is of sweet malts followed by a brief fruit presence, aftertaste is subtle and of very short duration, somewhat reminiscent of a belgian style but only in passing
m- light-bodied and watery mouthfeel, lively carbonation that is a little overwhelming.
d- rather underwhelming offering, particularly for a fruit beer. I dont think i could even tell this was a ’fruit beer’ in a blind taste test. This was good for a group beer tasting, but I probably won’t go in for round two anytime soon. dutch23mp (160), Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA Feb 8, 2009 22 oz bottle the fruit taste is predominate but did not kill the taste of this beer. Good balance of hops with the fruit not my normal like for a beer but a nice change.
