Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Clear reddish color with a couple fingers of frothy off white head and nice lacing but no retention. Berry and metallic aromas. Very sweet body with mostly blueberries underneath and a spicy finish.

Amber with a small white head. Aroma was black/blueberry and sweet malt. Similar flavor with a bit of caramel and wheat. Finishes lightly syrupy.

Pours a light reddish color with a nice white head. Aroma is slighty fruity and malty. The taste is a cross between a strong light belgian with the slight tartness resembling some lambics. Interesting.

Strong berry aroma: strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, cherry, and simple syrup. Sweet but interesting. Pours a clear caramel color, almost red, with a thin filmy head. Strong sweetness in the flavor. It’s a berry fruit salad! All of which I described in the aroma. But the sweetness fades and a good wheat flavor comes through. The palate is awesome: the sweetness doesn’t linger. though there is some syrupy-ness in the finish. Tasty indeed.

Getting Notebook online. Bottle. Very interesting and different brew. Pours a hazy brown with red tones. Nose full of various berries. Berries continue to the tongue. A nice carbonation as well is very refreshing. A quality change of pace.

750 ml 2007 aged 1 year. Dark amber light brown pour. Fruitier berry aroma and on the palate. I was told this wouldn’t last a year, but it did so with greatness. The hop profile mellowed out and the flavors stayed strong. No sourness or cloying. Thinking about aging another one but with so many coming out I have even better choices. Another winner from DFH.

750mL. Pours clear dark amber with a lacy off-white head. Tart taste with hints of berry. Light body, moderate carbonation. Crisp/tart finish.

Bottle shared by Butters. Poured a hazy amber with an off-white head that settles to a ring and left light lace. Sweet berry mix in the aroma with a malt background. The flavor is much the same with berry and caramel. Medium body and sweet throughout. Nice!
