Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Amber color nice white head, good lace. basic grain aroma light fruit some alcohols. Avg pal. Super sweet berry covered in sugar flavor w/ some molasis. Tastes good but the swallow burns something special. Tried in the bottle and it was much better than I remembered. Very sweet nice and subdued.

750 ml bottle, from slob - thanks dude! Brilliant scarlet amber color with a small off-white head. Fruity malt aroma, slightly savory, tart berries along with spices, some alcohol and stone fruits. Sweet and fruity flavors, nice forward spiciness, with warming alcohol, wheaty notes and a little salty savoriness. Light to medium body with gentle carbonation.

Poured from a 750. It pours a pinkish-yellow-red color. It has strong notes of berries, with a bit of hops for balance. It is a good beer, but every bottle I have tasted has a slightly metallic taste to it. All in all a good beer.

Bottle. Clear reddish colour with a medium pinkish head and a good lacing. Sweet malty and fruity aroma and taste. Pleasent mouthfeel. The high zbv. is well hidden.

This is part of a beer club. Had only one bottle but was decent for the price. Poured great and had a nice finish. Would do again.

750mL, Bottled on 02/12/07. Pours a clear reddish orange with a 1 1/2 finger pale off-white pink head, pretty decent retention.. Aroma of sweet fruit syrup, strawberries and very ripe blueberries, light toasted malts, and hints of grassy hops and alcohol. The alcohol doesn’t try too hard to hide in the flavor. Berries are up front in the flavor along with some biscuity malts. After I swallow I can’t pick up too much on the alcohol in my mouth, but beforehand it borders on being harsh. Minimal bitterness. Light to moderate creamy carbonation with a medium body that just seemed a tad thin. Not bad, but I don’t need to have this one again.

Bottle shared with Mabel, Jerc, and Blankboy, blankboy’s bottle. Malty, fruity aroma. Med dark red/brown, decent sized head. Good taste - lots of fruit, malt and some hops. A pretty neat balance here and a very interesting taste - good stuff Dogfish head nice experiment.
