Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Bright copper in colour, lingering light pink coloured head, good lacing, some noticable carbonation. The aroma is of more blueberries than blackberries, some raspberries, slightly toasty, herbal, perfumy, light alcohol. The flavour is moderately sweet, lots of fruit (blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and cherries), some very ripe bananas, light malt. Medium bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes long, sweet with lots of fruit. This was a weird one as per usual from Dogfish Head. A bizzare fruit beer, alcohol was well hidden again. Quite expensive.

Clear reddish brown with large white head. Aroma of belgian yeast, light fruit and a bit of hops. Very sweet and fruity, with almost a berry syrup feel to it. After 1/2 a glass, I know there is no way in hell I"m finishing the bottle by myself. Alcohol isn’t hidden at all....Not much of a fan. Fairly hoppy finish. Just too strong, and not very interesting.

My bottle (750ml) shared with tupalev, jerc & mabel. Pours a clear orange-amber with lots of bubbles and a large somewhat-lasting off-white head. Aroma of slightly sour fruit, spices and Belgian yeast. Flavour’s fruity and malty along with spices, light grassy hops and a light bitter finish. I couldn’t really detect the alcohol at all. Medium bodied. For a Fruit Beer this is pretty good stuff.

Slight purplish accent to the dark amber colour. The aroma contains hints of yeast, blueberry, coriander and a peppery, tripelish malt backbone. Fairly sweet, only hints of blackberry and a light yeast character. Drinks lighter than its weight class. Good entry to the fruit beer category.
