Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Unique coloring with the color changing while pouring. Fruits, spice, and malts play a part in aroma and taste. Nice flavorful taste, highly carbonated.

750ml bottle: Pours a murky amberish orangey red color with a soap bubble head. The aroma surprisingly muted, noting simply caramelized malts and a little blueberry fruit. The body is medium with notes of caramel, bread and hay. Some light fruitiness here as well, although not very defined. I applaud DFH for venturing into new territory and consistantly pushing the envelope, but this beer didn’t do much for me.

pours light brown with slightly off color creamy head. nice blueberry aromas that were just faint enough to make it nicely inviting. taste is similar. spicey with a touch of bitterness and again a distant taste of blueberries and blackberries. nice medium mouthfeel that really tas on to the entire mouth. nice flavorful finish that lingers just long enouh.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a one finger somewhat pinkish white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of berries and light citrus. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeeel with a mild amount of bitterness, well hidden alcohol, and tart finish. Very good.

Pours a transparent dark mahogany ruby with a fairly full, wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet fructose and berries with a touch of caramel malt and grapefruity hops. Body starts with good viscosity and fresh, semi-sweet and tart berry flavor. Has some nice bready Belgian yeasty notes toward a sweet, fruity finish that hides the alcohol quite well. A good fruit beer.

Intresting flavor. Thought this was going to be an over the top fruit beer but I was actually dissapointed with the flavor. It felt weak and unflavorful and just bland. Nothing special and the beer was just flat in the overall taste. Not bad but it was a lighter beer than 10%.

Color is a light brown hue, with a thin white head. Nice blueberry and blacberry hints in the aroma, light caramel. Taste is blueberry, caramel, and some alcohol. Overall pretty easy drinking for a 10% brew.
