Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Courtesy of Zathrus13. Pours ruby red with a persistent off white head. Smells of Blueberries, smeet malt, some dough, some tanginess. Tastes of blueberry pie with underlying sugary molasses. A completely unbalanced oversweetened mess. Red and white was much better.

Bottle - A really well done beer. This beer was primarily refreshing and quite drinkable. The coloration was nice. Perfect carbonation level. Alcohol content well masked. The fruit is subtle and provides a nice background to the malt and spicy hop character.

Thin light pink head of varying sized bubbles. Decent carbonation. Sweet and fruity aroma with some raspberry, honey and sweet malts. Color is a nice mahagony red. Light fruity flavor. Some blueberry and raspberry. Dry and a little tart. Noticable alcohol presence and warming. Goes down pretty easy. Tart dry finish with a bit of lingering raspberry. A decent and potent fruit beer. Why did they make this again? Seems like a lighter version of the Fort.

Pours a beautiful dark orange color with a slightly reddish hue, generious dark white head with a light reddish tint, nose full of fruits & malts with hints of blackberry & blueberry, also a touch of hops, medium in body, had a bit of a spritzy mouthfeel, felt a lot like drinking a glass of champagne, mild flavors with notes of fruit, berries, bread & dry hoppiness, finish & aftertaste were generally dry with a touch of that DFH signature maltiness, another pretty original brew from DFH, the alcohol was very well masked, only a slight hint of it toward the back-end of the body, a pretty decent fruit beer

Pours a nice reddish color. Aroma with hints of fruit. Very long lasting frothy head. More of a blackberry taste. I couldn’t appreciate the blueberry much. Not a bad beer overall.

Pours a redish color. Head is a very light redish hue. Aroma was a little heavy on the alcohol (10%), but surprisingly it wasn’t as prominent in the taste. Flavor is that of berries - notably blackberries and blueberries (only makes sense).

Black and Blue was an interesting beer to say the least. It was nicely done as far as fruit beers go. The color was a nice red body with a pink head. The taste was still very much consistent with beer with a note of the blackberries. The aroma was inviting with a berry smell and sweet notes throughout. I honestly expected something more like the Fort, but this one was a solid beer with a nice hint of fruit. Well Done!
