Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

This beer tasted a lot like what I think Forte would taste like if you aged it for about two years. It is a mellow fruitiness that I found inoffensive, somewhat appealing, but not awefully exciting either. Not bad; and I’d recommend it. This beer is reddish with a soapy head. It has a fruity sour cherry smell. Flavor is mellow sour cherries and this beer is not boozy or unpleasantly fruity (which was my impression of Forte). Mouthfeel is a bit watery. I thought this beer was decent, but it may have been just a bit too mellow. A mix of half this and half Forte I think would be perfect!

Very sweet and very strong...just like I like my meh.....I mean beer. A great fruit beer that is extraordinarily fruity. More than most fruit beers, which is a trend with dogfish fruity beers.

Not bad. I don’t think I’m a fan of fruit beers. Rasberry, blackberry, apricot, gummy bears sums it up.

2008-05-01. Red tinged amber body witha good sized foamy off white head. Odd aroma of something, strange dusty fruit notes. After taking a sip of the beer the aroma takes on more of an identifiable fruit character. (6+) Flavour has a fairly generic sweet malt foundation, modest raspberry and berry fruits. Touch jammy in the finish. (6+) Palate is slightly more full bodied than average. Pleasant, bit ho-hum especially by DFH standards, but its not bad. 7/4/7/3/13-14 - 3.5 At least its consistent! Bottle shared by HogTownHarry <P>July 2007. Bottle. Ruby body with a frothy pink tinted head. (3+) Sweet fruity aroma is muted, lightly yeasty and has some moderate alcohol notes. Similar flavour is pleasant with notes of raspberry and ambiguous fruit, but is similarly muted. Light bitterness and tart fruit. Average to thin palate. Alcohol is surprisingly restrained considering how strong it is, but the flavour as a whole is a bit too light for my liking. Pleasant, but underwhelming. 7/3+/7/3/14 - 3.5

[402-20070706] 1pt9.6floz (w/ jerc). Aroma holds faint fruit traces. Slightly hazy, red bronze body with a long-lasting foamy white head. Flavour has some fruit, some booze, and some grape-like qualities. Medium body hides the alcohol. Interesting colour, nice and mild.

750 ml bottle. Poured a lovely reddish-purple berry color. Head was thick, foamy, and white with a pinkish tint. Head retention was good, but there was only a bit of lace left behind. Aroma was of subdued berries. The beer was neither sweet nor dry. The golden mean between them I guess. Flavor was malt dominated, mostly milk chocolatey with a hint of toffee accompanied by a nondescript berry accent. Although subtle, the berries were there; lightly acidic up front and peaking in intensity toward the end as the malt flavors waned. The alcohol was tangible and reminded me of vodka, especially when you chewed the beer a bit before swallowing. Interesting beer overall, but not as good as I had hoped it would be.

poured into tall tulip... pours like pink champagne that sticks to the glass. pours a full frothy white head, with a sweet winey aroma, not as afronted as the descriptin may suit but mild, sweet, winey feel.. pretty fun to drink

750ml bottle: I had this one for several months sitting in Mom’s refrigerator. The 10% ABV kind of scared me. Poured a pleasant looking reddish amber with just a wisp of an off white head. Caramel, malt, and sugar aroma with just a touch of the fruit. Flavor is quite full with fruits and caramel. It is sweet too. Can’t drink too much of this stuff. Special occasions? Sure. Nice beer but perhaps unrefined.
