Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

not at all what i expected in this bottle. the berries were rather subtle and muted. a very drinkable beer but not the fruits i would have figured on. the alcohol was hidden nicely and the Belgian yeast added nicely.

Bottled at Københavnske Øldage. Ckear, reddish brown with some off-white head. Malty, sweetish aroma with dried fruits and some beef-stock. Beef-stock, malt, caramel and dried fruits in the flavor. Full body, and a long, sweetish finish. Quite nice, but not the best from Dogfish Head.’ (070511)

i thought this was a waste of money, its a good brew, but for close to $20 a bottle one can do better. had a sweet almost fruity/candi like flavor with a bit of spice mixed in....... someone should make a berries and cream beer, and get that guy from the starburst commercials to be on the bottle, ha ha.

Bottle. Flute. An interesting beer that pours one of the most brilliant shades of amber I’ve ever seen. Thick, bubbly head. All of the fruity flavor is very reserved in this beer. Berry, hops and malt are balanced extremely well in both flavor and aroma. Very well crafted even despite the syrupy mouthfeel. Good

Father’s Day - Pours a dark pinkish color, almost into the purple family. The flute showed off the light pink head nicely. The scent was of berries, carbonation and some yeast. I can’t quite say why I hated this so much. The palate was thin and flat. I didn’t think that the berries came through nearly enough to make this something special. I tried to get through with out pouring it down the drain...but I failed....or the beer failed me.

Clear chestnut colour with an off white head. Malty and light caramel sweet aroma with lots of berry fruityness. Fruity, sugary sweet flavor with a light alcohol note. Berry fruity finish.

Appearance: Pours a reddish-purple body with thin, short-lived off-white head. Smell: A fairly delicate aroma of blackberry juice, blueberry syrup, and sweet-smelling malts. Taste: Void of the striking, juicy fruitiness I was hoping for, I’m disappointed to find it was merely a faint, awkward candyish berry sweetness. Finishes tart and medicinal. Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Mouthfeel is sticky, approaching syrupy. Mild carbonation. Drinkability: The real loser in all of this is me, as I still have another bottle of this stuff waiting for me at home.
