madsberg (4873), Søborg, Denmark May 24, 2007 Bottled. Orange and reddish coloured. Quite clear. Off white head. Sweetish and fruity aroma with some notes of berries. Flavour has alcohol and berries and the sweetness is countered nicely by a vague sourness. Is medium bodied. Sweetish end. edden (927), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA May 23, 2007 5/19/07: Bottle. Ruby red body with a slightly off white head which is big and thick. Nice lace. Fruity aroma. Sweet berries, caramel malt, wheat and black cherry. Light hop finish and smooth. faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands May 23, 2007 Bottle. Red-brown colour. Sweet aroma of fruits and hops. The flavour is sweet with berries, malt, caramel and alcohol. OdinUSMC (7), Poquoson, Virginia, USA does not count May 22, 2007 Wow. Abismal. I dropped $32 at a bar for this and it was worth maybe 5 bucks. An empty and thin taste. Like a light beer with a few berries and a dirty syringe floating in it. Sure, the color of the head was nice but food coloring could accomplish the same thing for a lofty 35 cents. The only positive was that the 10% ABV was almost unnoticible so if your trying to get a bunch of 10 year olds wasted, skip the Mikes Hard and try this. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA May 22, 2007 Okay, so my first real big disappointment from this company. Little to no aroma from the fruits at all, and no lasting head at all. Bubbly in character. Taste is a bit thick and strong, but without much fruit notes (which is ok) but mostly just bland and icky. And way too much money! Brigadier (1220), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA May 21, 2007 750 ml bottle
The packaging for this fooled me into dropping $11.99 for a 750 ml bottle. At half the price it would have been worth it - Dogfish Head is on their last strike before I stop picking up special releases. Let’s hope whatever is next in line is better than this or the Red and White. While not a bad beer it is just a so-so hybrid of a fruit beer and Belgian wit. If it could make up its mind to be one or the other it would be an improvement.
Aroma / Appearance - A half finger bleached white head surged to the top of the glass and settled. Underneath was a colorful raspberry hued body which let about half the light filter through. The nose was very fruity - raspberries, blueberries and blackberries - with a hint of yeast underneath. I was expecting either a little stronger profile of one or the other; the mixture weakened the quality of both.
Flavor / Palate - The fruit wave hit the palate on the first sip. A combination of blackberries, blueberries and watermelon created a summery mouthfeel. The aftertaste of yeast and vanilla brought it back into the realm of the Belgian wit. It was an interesting experiment but one that I would not be likely to pick up again. After all, I can pick up Belgian Red for a few dollars less and get a much higher quality experience. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA May 21, 2007 750 ml bottle. Bottled on 2/13/07. Poured out a clear, bright garnet color.
Minimal head. Aromas are of berries, slight Belgian funk, dry straw, some malts, damp basement. Flavors are of malts mostly, with a hint of berries & earthy hops rounding out the flavors. medium mouthfeel, decent body.
Good beer, but needs more fruit. BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA May 21, 2007 Thanks to Badgerben for sharing. Nice red orange color with lots of foamy white head. Smells a lot like a berry potpourri my mother used to have when I was younger Thick fizzy mouth feel with faint blueberry taste.
