COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

TheBeerLover (1025) - DC Metro Area, USA - APR 20, 2007
UPDATED: JUN 15, 2007 750 ml bottle. Pours to a beautiful, bright, ruby red color, with a rocky, pink head that fades, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is faint, with light aroma of pale malt, paired with faint fruity/berry aroma, and peppery alcohol. The palate is almost non existant, with liight flavors of pale and sweet malt, and faint hints of fruity/berry flavor. This beer finishes with more light malt and light berry flavors, then ends with some warming, alcohol heat that lingers. Iím a big fan of a well done fruit beer, especially one with black berry and blue berry. Black & Blue was very lacking as a fruit beer, and I found this beer to be a dissapointment in general. It was a dangerously drinkable high abv beer, but I found the malt, and fruit aromas and flavors, totally lacking in this beer. I was surprised how little character this beer actually had. At $13 a bottle, it is not a beer I would try again, and unless you are really interested in trying a new beer from DFH, I would not recommend buying this beer.

Bottle sampled. Pours reddish/amber with a large off-white head. Aroma of fruit, alcohol, and hops. The flavor is sweet, alcohol is present, loads of sweet malts, and finishes dry.

Sample at Indy tasting Hotshotz - Aroma of dark berries, tobacco and malt. Pours deep purple with a medium head and decent lacing. Flavor matches aroma. Palate is dry and crisp. Not bad but not great.

Bottle at Dilly Deli. Poured clear reddish amber with a large off-white head that diminished slowly with minimal lacing. Good friut and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium spicy sweet flavor with medium sweet finish of moderate duration with a small alcohol burn. Another Dogfish Head beer that did not meet my expectations.

This beer pours a nice dark amber color with no head at all. The smell is very weak and not that intence at all. It has a hint of berrys in it and hids the booze very well perfect beer with dinner or just to relax and drink.

I had a hard time bringing in the aroma which is why I rated the aroma so low. This beer reminds my palate of a champagne which is interesting. For a 10% beer I do not taste any alcohol. The finish is clean and leaves the mouth quickly without room for an after taste. I would drink this beer again but it was not one of my favorites.

Drink4Satan (676) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - APR 18, 2007
Pours a pink-tinted amber with a susdsy white head that dimineshes quickly. I swear I saw a slight blue tint when I was pouring it. Smells like a syrupy lager with a tartness to it. The flavour is surprisingly weak and the palate is very thin. The carbonation is spritzy and pleasant. The masking of the alcohol is incredible, though. Itís spicy, grainy, mildly bitter, but hardly fuity. I was expecting to taste some blueberry. Almost champaign-like. Good for the women.

Pours a ruby hue amber colour with a small fizzy head , medium carbonation. Aroma is different with blueberries and malts. No booze is apparent. Flavour is light with berry, medium body, and dry finish. The palate is that not complex and aftertaste is to a minimum.
