Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Red-amber. Fast, creamy head. Aroma: Berries, malt. Flavor: The same with alcahol finish. A Lambic on Sterroids!

Pours a clear ruby red brown brew with a thick pinkish white head. Fast dissolving head and leaves a sparse lacing. I was expecting a stronger aroma, but you have to really work to get it. When found there is an aroma is sweet berries and roasted malt. Taste is highly carbonated, very tart berries, more spice and hints of cinnamon. Finish is medium body, a little dry and a tart aftertaste. Not bad and it grew on me as I finished my glass.

I don’t know. It’s interesting. Has a nice belgian body to it, but the fruit just doesn’t really work for me. Well done I guess, just not for me.

Bottles many times and recently on draft at BT. Dark berry color with a tinted head. Aroma of berries, can’t really pick ou tthe blueberries bit there are a lot of berries here, black, red, blue and maybe some other colors. Nice sweet aroma and taste is rich and sweet berries too. Not as medicinal as Fort. Some crisp semi sweet tart flavors on the finish. Pretty good.

Thought this one was wonderful. Nice and tart, extremely crisp and the sugars are all berries. Some dry hoppiness adds to the tartness and the yeast is very crisp as well.

Bottle Alaskanwarren picked up while we were out beer shopping around Denver. Thanks Brian! Peachy tan pour, rough beige head. Blue Koolaid® and cotton candy aroma. A high frequency minty sort of nose. Cranberry/lemon tart flavor, a bit of clean alcohol. Pleasant bright fruity flavor, excessively sweet nose.

750 ml bottle courtesy of PhillyBeer2112. Bottled in 2018 B stamped on bottle (perhaps I misread this, I am pretty certain this is from 2008. Pour is cloudy ruby orange golden with a smallish off white head. Some particulates are floating in the glass. Fair amount of lacing. Aroma of grainy malt and lightly sour berry fruit sweetness. There is also the tart raspberry present. Decent shot of booze as it warms. Nose is actually milder than I would have expected. Taste is big raspberry and blueberry jam sweetness. There really is none of the sour or tartness from the nose, just the fruit sweetness. The taste is sticky, and cloying. The alcohol burns pretty quick, hot and long. The grain is present, but is behind the sweet fruit. Palate is medium heavy, sticky, and mouth coating. As mentioned, the alcohol lingers long and hot. Interesting concept, just too harsh for me. Thanks for sending this to me Dan.

bottled 2/07. drank 3/09. pours a nice reddish purple with no real head to speak of. aroma is pungent with tart blackberries and sweet blueberries. a little oak comes through the nose as well. drinks smooth and sweet with blackberries upfront and finishes with lots of blueberry. hops have all but died over the 2 years which i am pleased with. not an every day drinker, but great when aged for a special occasion.
