Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

interesting but not what i expected at all. pours a reddish amber color with a small quickly diminishing head. nice sparkly mouthfeel and a sweet malty taste with maybe the slightest juiciness in the finish. not very fruity at all...couldnt pick out any particular fruit flavors at all. i probably wouldve enjoyed it more if i didnt know what it was...or what i thought it would be. that said, went down easy and didnt taste too bad.

not what I expected.nice amber color w/ a reddish hue.a bit of berries in the nose but for a fruit beer almost no berry taste at all.nice mouthfeel with a bit of a sparkle feel on the tongue. lots of malty flavor and some sourness.overall its ok not sure if I would get it again but worth trying.

Pretty interesting. Alot maltier than I expected from a fruit beer. Definently some berry taste going on in there. A little bit sweet and a little bit sour. A little bit of a flavor battle going on but none of it overpowers. You don’t taste the alcohol until the finish. Pretty good stuff and certainly pretty interesting.

UPDATED: APR 26, 2007 Pours amber w/ a pinkish hue. Full, semi creamy froth that slowly reduces to reveal a standard blanket w/ lacing. Aromas of dusty, Belgian granite and dried berries. Full nectar w/ ample creamy residual effers. Timaltuous, decadent, fat berries, sherry malts, madiera, slightly tart, gum, black cherry, raspberry, peach nectar. The finish has a lingering creamy fruit thing going on like mixed berry yogurt. The finish is bittered w/ a mild case of peachpiticous. It actually balances out the moderate sweetness levels making this a very drinkable brew indeed ladies and gents. The more you drink it, the more you want it.

I thought this was supposed to be a fruit beer. No fruit in the aroma or in flavor. You might get a hint of berries here and there but mostly malt and alcohol. Not to strong.

Clear red body, white head. After it warmed a bit, it had a very distinct berry aroma, not too terrible. A little metallic. Much better warmed, the palate is thicker and the flavour(a sweet fruit-berry with well-hidden alcohol) is richer.

750ml bottle from Florian’s. Translucent ruby-red body with a quarter inch of off-white head. Smell is weaker than expected, but consists mostly of blackberry with a hint of blueberry. Blue and black berries dominate the flavor as expected, with hints of caramel malt, making for a mostly sweet beer with a hint of sourness. Surprsisingly little alcohol present in the flavor. And while the body is atad syruppy, it;s oddly drinkable for such a big beer. Maybe getting this one again.

Clear copper amber body with a medium creamy off-white head that diminishes quickly into a light film. Sweet fruity aroma with some caramel and spice. Light berry flavor in the foreground, slightly tart blending into a caramel and sugary background.

rosey brown appearance with a sweet nose. flavor is very sweet with a strong berry character. little complexity and the sweetness is overbearing. at least they didn’t overload it with hops like all their other beers. an intersting idea, but it doesn’t really work

pours a amber with a violet hue, nice pinkish head. looks are very cool. not a whole lot going on in aroma, just a bit of malt and hint of berry. mouthful is nice and tart. has a dry finish with more tartness. no big berry flavors, just the tartness that almost ripe black berries have. it is very pleasant but not the complexity i was hoping for...
