Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Bottled. Poures a reddish-purple color with a thin white head. The aroma is strong with yeast and malts with notes of berry, lemmon, and citrus. The berry really comes out in the taste, but other than that it is the same as the smell. It is very bubblely. It was ok, but I do not think I would try it again.

Bottled on 2008 F. Beer is clear, pretty rose-colored pink. Head is initially white, average, frothy. Almost totally diminishes except for a thin white rim of clean little bubbles on the edge of the snifter. The aroma is malty with light/moderate notes of cookie, toasted grain; hoppy with a moderate note of lemon zest; yeasty with a light, wild yeast note that’s primarlly horsey with a recessive touch of sweat; lighter miscellaneous notes of tart fresh berry and a light/moderate note of alcohol. The flavor is lightly sweet, moderately juicy/sour, trace dry/bitter with a long, lightly warm, lightly dry/lean, finish. The body is light/medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is moderately fuzzy. Nice balance between the fruit and the beer. Intriguing wild quality.

Alcohol and Berries...is the easiest way to sum up this beer. Its a split bottle, it was a little too much for me to handle by myself. DogFish sure does push the envelope

Poured amber with a fluffy white head. Aroma of fruit and booze. Some fruit backed by booze. Don’t like it.

Bottle poured to glass. Thanks Bryan K. Pours a redish color with a white head. Sweet malty profile and very high carbonation on the tounge. Blue and blackberrys are heavy in the nose.

From bottle. Light carbonic metallic gassy character to the nose, with light sweet fruit and some dull papery hops. Light malt presense and not a lot of fruity aroma. Dark copper-amber clear with thin lacing head. Medium-heavy watery body with medium carbonation. Light warming. Starts sweet with mild malt caramel and some brown sugar. Fruity character comes in, but it’s not easy to distinguish any specific fruit here. Berry-like tartness, for sure, but not overwhelming. There is some oxidation in here, and the higher alcohol taste is mixed with some papery hops and bit of fruit funk. Not a horrible beer by any stretch, but I was expecting something a bit more grandiose and with a bit of oomph. Tasty, but nothing special.
