3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The Black & Blue pours brilliant reddish amber color, with fine carbonation. The off-white foam rises to one finger thick, but dissipates fairly quickly. From the bottom of my Chimay glass, thereís a constant stream of carbonation rising throughout this glass. Even as Iím pouring I can smell some of the fruity esters rising from the brew.
The nose is dominated by an overwhelming amount of fruit, I canít pick up any sense of hops at all. Thereís just a little bit of candy-malt in the background, but the nose is heavily controlled by the fruitiness from the raspberries and blueberries.
The first few sips are pretty intense, and by intense, I mean super fruity and sweet. The first little bit of the Black and Blue are really, really fruit driven, and almost framboise lambic-ish. After I get a few sips under my belt and it warms up a little bit, I can pick out more of the complexity of the brew. Thereís now a significant malty character in the background, and the alcohol is coming through more and more as it warms to room temperature.
At first, I was significantly unimpressed by this Black and Blue from Dogfish. After a few sips in, Iím coming around a bit. Itís pretty drinkable, relatively light in body, and probably pretty mass-appealing. Iím still not in love with the Black and Blue, but it is growing on my slowly.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Transfer from BA review on 5-20-12-
Poured from bottle into snifter
Appearance Ė Pours a ruby red Ė pink color with a fluffy pink hued head. The head fades rather quickly to give a moderate amount of lacing.
Smell Ė The aroma is very berry-white wine in nature. There is a big presence of a green grape/white wine aroma mixed with a moderately strong blackberry smell. There are lighter hints of some blueberry and yeast mixed in as well. As stated before, quite white wine like.
Taste - Just like the nose hinted at, the flavor is very semi-sweet white wine like. Its starts out with a white grape flavor some breadiness and a strong presence of tannins. These flavors create a base for the beer which lasts the whole taste through. The berry flavors come more toward the middle. They begin lighter, but strengthen throughout the taste experience. At the end a bitter sweet berry flavor is left to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel Ė Very light in body with a slightly higher than average level of carbonation. It is appropriate and very nice for the wine like flavors of the beer.
Overall Ė Not really what I am looking for when I am looking for a beer. It is a good wine alternative if that is what you are looking for; sorta a white wine-beer hybrid.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap @ The BeerMongers during their DFH Heaven & Hell event... Poured deep amber/reddish with a thin, khaki head. No oxidation here and nothing to lend to its age. Aroma of perfumy, vinous fruits. Fizzy mouthfeel with a decent attenuation and carbonation level. Tasted of wine-like booze, vinous & berry fruits, candied grape bubblelicious, and loads of alcohol warmth even with a couple of years on it.

Well for what it is it is ok pours a pinkish hue with a thin head. Aroma is berries. Body is thin and tastes a bit like an alcoholic blueberry soda. Refreshing but just ok. Very thin bodied and very carbonated.

4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a hazy copper with lots of pulpy sediments and a foamy off-white head. Has a wonderfully sweet fruit aroma. Flavor is less on the sweet side and more on the tart fruit side, which is just fine. Has a full body feel with some carbonation. This is very good, with a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness and a strong blend of blueberry and blackberry flavors. Delicious.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This beer looks pretty on the pour, nice ruby color and light pink head. A fruity aroma filled with berries and thr tast adds some nice malt and breadiness but isnít too complex. Sweet on the palate and nice overall.

Very nice fruity beer. Can definitely smell and taste Belgian yeast. The blueberries aren't overwhelming, they blend nicely in the palate.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
750 ml bottle shared. Pours a translucent dark copper with a thin beige head of foam. The aroma has mostly malty nuances with just hints at the berries used. Taste is more malty sweetness again. Bigger body, medium carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750mL, Bottled On 4/23/13. Nose is huge fruity juice/puree, superheavy blueberries with a touch of blackberries and vaguely hoppy notes. Pours a dark ruby/pink/orange (probably closer to the former) with a sudsy pink-tinged off-white head. Taste is cloyingly sweet at first but with a extremely jammy and fruit-gummy character that cuts it a bit; alcohol is strong but doesnít burn, and thereís a mild spicy-peppery undercut at the bottom. Oily medium body, soft and ultra smooth, very low bitterness, light cloves, some fun yeasty-minerally undertones and an overall sense of confidence. Bit of a strange interplay, there are elements here I donít like at all, but the other, positive elements work really well together and the fruit is on overdrive, which is sort of impressive to taste. Overall, Iím really enjoying it and would love to try it fresh to see if the noble hops clash or complement.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: Pours a clear amber with a purple/reddish tinge to it, sort of blush colored. The head is short and white with a light purple hue through it, short lived.
Aroma: The aroma is a bit weak but berries are definitely notable through it with a slight mineral quality. The aroma hints at a slight tartness amongst the fruitiness.
Taste: Berries are noted right on the intro and through to the finish, though they arenít out of balance. In-fact the berries compliment and add to the mild base, perhaps some straw throughout with a touch of alcohol on the finish that lingers along with berries. The beer hides the alcohol rather well though.
Palate: Full bodied and moderately spritzy.
Overall: This is a solid beer, I like the implementation of the berries, they really compliment the beer nicely. The booze is hidden nicely. I feel like this would compliment some deserts nicely, perhaps a plain cheesecake, despite it lacking much sweetness. Enjoyable brew.
