Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Brought to C-U Beer Club by htsprint. Deep copper color with fizzy off white head. Areoma was semi-sweet with notes of berries tempered by touches of alcohol and dough. Medium to full bodied with lively carbonation. Flavor was semi-sweet, berries without sugar added. Pleasant drink chilled on a hot summer day.

750ml from . . . I cant remember. Anyways, this is a not bad companion to DFH Red and White. Clear pour, a pleasantly gleaming body, with a thick head that dissipates somewhat quickly. Translucent amber with faint pinkish hues, not unlike the Upland lambics I recently sampled, at least in appearance. Strong berry nose but you can certainly tell this is pureed, as it has a vaguely artificial quality to it. Malty brew with warming qualities, a bit of honey in the flavor too, almost as if this is Midas Touch with a ton of fruit. Alcohol well hidden, not a bad beer.

The most surprising thing about htis beer is the lack of real berry flavor that is covered up by its strong Alcohol content. The rest of the beer is nice and clean with a mild lactic body, and a strong head. worth a try though.

[75 cl bottle] Ruby colour, weak head. Aroma is very subtle. Flavour is sweet with notes of sourish berries. The taste of alcohol is noticeable but not disturbing. A drinkable beer but still a minor disappointment.

Ølfestival 2007. Bottled. Pours a clear red with a small off-white head. Tiny lacings. Medium sweetness with some acidity. Some malty aromas with light yeasty notes. Average grape and pearnotes. Medium bodied. Soft carbonation. Dry and sour finish.

Tap @ Cole’s Dogfish Fest. Reddish orange body, no head. If there was a hairspray made with fruit & malt it would smell just like this. Flavor is berries, a juice character that reminds me of drinking Juicy Juice in 3rd grade. That Juicy Juice continues through to the finish. Blech.
