COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Pours a purplish pink with slight head. Hits you like a Tripel, crisp, but has a refreshing sweetness and tartness from the fruit. Very refreshing on a hot day and an interesting take on a Tripel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap. Looked dark in the glass. Could have been purple. Spicy aroma. Tons of blueberry taste. I’m not too much into these styles of beers, although this one was decent. Does hide the 10% ABV pretty well.

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2015 750 mL bottle poured into a shaker. The aroma is as advertised -blueberries and blackberries - with a coriander and clove hint. The beer is a clear, dark blueberry-purple hue with a thin, pink, fuzzy soap head that has okay retention and a light lace (extra points for unique coloring). The thick oily beer is a medium high sweet and medium bitter bitter mix with a light sour. There’s an abundant, light fizz carbonation to help the medium full body go down. The flavor strikes as a blueberry and blackberry muffin with a peppery clove spice. It finishes crisp and peppery with grass, bread, and tart berries. The aftertaste is clean and astringent with just a hint of spice and tart berries.

I wasn’t sure how this beer would be. A lot of blueberry beers taste like wine. This blueberry beer had more of a lager taste. I thought overall it was well worth the money.

On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and dispensed to a snifter showing a fairly clear, reddish copper color, with fair persistence to the finger’s width of soft white head foam, and even better lingering nature to the waves & ribbons of lacing. The nose was expressive cherry/berry, balanced sweetness & tartness, with complementary spice. The taste continued tangy, tart, and sweet, with some modest hop astringency, and lively carbonation, in a medium body. Alcohol seemed hidden behind the pronounced flavor notes as the finale presented just enough dryness to finish crisply. Cordial-like but not too much sweetness allowed nice drinkability.

Bottle. Cloudy orange-red, light pink head. Blueberry nose. Berry base, light tart base, a hint minerals, vanilla and citrus. Dry sparkly mouthfeel, chewy medium body. Refreshing dangerously easy to drink.

Typical Belgium yeast aroma with the tartness and mild sweetness of the berries come from this almost clear red brew with tiny white bubbles forming around the edge the glass. Berries and sweetness up front with an underlying tartness in this medium bodied brew. The after taste is black berries and slight warming from the alcohol. A decent brew for sure.

Sweet, but not overly so. Tart as well. Fruity, but no obviously blueberry or blackberry flavor that I can taste. Finish is all Belgian yeast. Pretty good.

Berry hue. Light head. Excellent balance with the Belgian. Perfect for after a meal and with a good book.

Exactly what you'd expect in a berry Belgian. Just a bit tart too, like the berries. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Fruity aroma. Colour of Ribena. Light fizz. Taste of blueberries and underripe blackberries. Not too sweet like a lot of fruit beers. (K)
