Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Bottled. Clear orange color, short head. Aroma of fruit, sweet, bit malt, bit liquor. Artificial fruity barley wine. Some clove.

(750ml bottle, bottled 2/12/07) Large beige head atop crystal clear red/amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, blueberry/boysenberry, some blackberry. Taste is sweet, very berry, some alcohol, light peach, earthy/spicy. Medium-full body, moderately sticky. Not surprisingly, too big and too sweet for a single person to drink the bottle it’s sold in during an evening.

Ruby-toned amber body with a receding, sudsy white head. Sugary DFH signature yeast characters, with plummy raspberry notes in the nose. Notable alcohol, like a liqueur. Medium-high sweetness with ample, underlying vegetal, fruit characters. Syrupy texture on the palate. Okay beer, but fails to achieve.

Pomegranate colour. Almost no head. More tannins than juicy fruit in aroma. High alcohol, low fruit taste. Dry, wine-like and mouth drying. Not a lot of beer-joy.

Dry, somewhat ashy aroma with some sugary plums. Very light aroma. The color is ruby red, filtered and nearly no head at all. The flavor is ever-so-slightly tart, but mostly it is sugary, and not much else. I taste no berries f any sort, although this beer is world’s better than Fort. Syrupy-sweet finish and too much alcoholic astringent burning as it goes down.

bottle, from carny77, Good aroma, sweet, like it says raspberry & blueberry, sugary. Clean brownish orange color, good head that faded quickly, ok lace. Sweet flavor, fruity with a bitter sour streak about it. medium body, oily viscous mouthfeel, sweet kind of dry finish. Well I was liking it most of the time, nice aroma, looked good with initial pour. Sweet, but not overbearing, but I would get this odd taste, kind of woody, but not as straight forward, I dunno, wasn’t able to place it, but it was on the finish.
