COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Bottle. The pour was a clear reddish peach with a huge pale pink fizzy head that dissipated rather quickly and produced some fair spotty lacing. The aroma was of a sweet caramel malt and a funky Belgian yeast with notes of Blackberry, Blueberry and had a mellow wine presence. The taste was sweetly acidic throughout with a strong berry presence and a nice bitter sourness along with a mild alcohol warming sensation towards the finish. The flavor hung around for a good long while with the bitter-sweet fruity taste mellowing as time went on. Mouthfeel was light in body with a strong dry texture and a good strong lively carbonation. Overall a very unique tasting brew, with just enough sweet and sour to mellow the harsh bitterness and allow for the fruity esters to prevail...

Typical Belgium yeast aroma with the tartness and mild sweetness of the berries come from this almost clear red brew with tiny white bubbles forming around the edge the glass. Berries and sweetness up front with an underlying tartness in this medium bodied brew. The after taste is black berries and slight warming from the alcohol. A decent brew for sure.

Sweet, but not overly so. Tart as well. Fruity, but no obviously blueberry or blackberry flavor that I can taste. Finish is all Belgian yeast. Pretty good.

Berry hue. Light head. Excellent balance with the Belgian. Perfect for after a meal and with a good book.

Exactly what you'd expect in a berry Belgian. Just a bit tart too, like the berries. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Fruity aroma. Colour of Ribena. Light fizz. Taste of blueberries and underripe blackberries. Not too sweet like a lot of fruit beers. (K)

Pours a dark red color and is a bit sour tasting. Berry flavor is present and has a solid malt backbone to balance. Description on label is accurate, can’t say I’d drink it again though.

Old rating. 750 ml bottle from Old Town. Poured into a pinot noir glass. Pinkish red color with a thin slightly purple head. Big berry aroma present with a hint of yeast. Light and dry. Some tartness and fruit on the palate. Creamy mouthfeel but light body. The fruit gets more tart as it warms up as well as some peppery notes...like a syrah light. Solid fruit beer.

Bottle (750ml ): Pinkish with thin head. Taste is sweet and tart. High carbonation. Very fruity. Probably out appeal to those who like sweet bubble wine which I do not. The official description is actually quite accurate, just not my thing.

Bottle at a big tasting (Nördprovning 2015). Fruity smell with some blueberries. Similar taste. Some sourness but not allot. Nice mix between blueberries and malt.

Poured from a 750ml bottle. The aroma is dominated by the fruit, there is a Belgian yeast character that comes through as well. The flavor is softer, the berry notes are firm, there is soft bready malts, and a Belgian yeast presence. Good beer.
