3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 thenick (766) - North Bellmore, USA - MAR 13, 2010
Rating #750. Sample @EBF. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is coffee and a slight bit of spice that I attribute to the Thai characteristic. Taste is coffee/spice up front with an edamame/berry finish that makes the beer surprisingly sweet. It wasn’t spectacular, but it’s solid.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 kkearn (1163) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 8, 2010
Draft at Monks’s DFH dinner, Feb 2010. Pours very deep brown, with an average sized brown head. Aroma of soy, black licorice, raisin, smoke, and pepper. Flavor begins with chocolate, which is complimented by anise, smoke, licorice, and blueberry. There’s a somewhat vegetal character in the background of the aroma and taste. Pepper and spice become more predominant towards the end, and stick around for a lengthy finish.

EBF back Log. Dark pour with thin tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, wood
and toasted malts. Taste was similar, but a hiint of spice and alcohol finished it off nicely. Interesting...

Draft @ EBF. Black pour with brown pour. Blackberries, and spice infused, roasty and chocolaty malt imperial stout. Fruit and sugar probably hide the abv.

Draft. Pours a black body with an off white head. Mocha pepper spiciness, but then oddly corny like creamed corn, yeah very odd indeed. Malty with some chocolate notes, a bit of medicinal berry tones an a light roastiness. Messy and all over.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 PilsnerPeter (2959) - Flushing, New York, USA - MAR 4, 2010
EBF 2010 Session One: I would have never even considered standing in the enormous nauseating line for this beer, and I didn’t! It was handed to me by j12601, so I ticked it! Deep brown pour with a khaki film. Sweet black malt aroma. Mild anise/fennel notes with a soy sauce note as well. Fizzy body. The flavor has an off lactic note (infection?) The black malt is thin with a one dimensional roast. Some diacetyl as well. Tastes very one dimensional and macro.

Pouring at session one of EBF in Boston. Pours black with a light purple hued tan head.Roast, smoke, chocolate on the nose. Astringent and thin. Weird. Has a bit of a chocolate pudding finish to it.

Dark Brown/Black pour with a tiny dark tan head. Aroma is strong molasses, dark chocolate and wood, Some prunes as well. A strong aroma of herbs as well, the thai basil really comes out in the aroma. Interesting. Flavor is full of dark fruit and savory herbs, followed by some bakers chocolate. Interesting stuff.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2010 Pours a dark brown with a thick milk chocolate brown head. The aroma is edamame, milk chocolate, berries and basil. The flavor is slightly sour for an imperial stout and you can really taste the basil

Opaque black with a small, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, berries, smoked malts, and alcohol. Taste of roast, dark chocolate, burnt wood, and a tart blackberry taste, with some alcohol in the finish, and a fizzy mouthfeel.
