Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

120z bottle. Pours dark amber with a foamy off-white head that leaves thick lines of lacing. Aroma is a sticky sweet hops with some spicy, bready notes. Flavour is resinous, very malty with a stinging bitter finish that dominates the mouth. This seems muddled to me with nothing shining out other than the bitterness.

Dark copper in color with a Thick Egg-Shelled colored foam. You can smell the hops, but there is a malty back round aroma. An Oaky creaminess on the palate. Lots of grapefruit with a vanilla undertones that moves to a spruce finish. No complaints with this winner from DFH.

Bottle from my brother into snifter. Kind of a ruby amber color. Aroma/flavor: nice combinations of yeast, caramel/raisins and some good bitterness. Also very nice lace.

Draft at DFH night at Blind Lady Ale House during the first annual San Diego Beer Week in November 2009. Pours orange-red with minimal head. Mellow aroma includes grapefruit and other citrus. Flavor is more mellow hops along with sweet malts. Finish is dry with light bitterness. This was described to me as a marriage of double IPA and barleywine. I think it turned out well.

12 oz bottle. Clear amber, frothy beige head. Aroma of floral hops, oak barrell, dark fruit. Not much brutal bitterness from the thick amount of malt balance. Buttery, creamy texture, slight alcohol through the nose. Roast and hop resin finish. Finish is bitter and lasting.

Orange amber color with aroma of hops, pine, and citrus. Flavor of citrus, wood, and a smooth dry hop finish. Well-balanced, sweet, and enjoyable1

Wonderful hops aroma with a slight metalic smell. Beutiful orange amber color, almost no head right from the start. Nice heavy hop flavor but definately an aged hop and not a green tasting hop. Although the hops are nice I feel that it is slight one dimensional. The finish is dry like an oak aged wine.
