Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

Clear dark amber pour, medium creamy khaki head. Huge pungent hop aroma - grapefruit, passionfruit, hop oils and resins. Full bodied, but surprisingly restrained in any sort of alcohol heat. Lots of caramelly malts. Not too bitter. In general, manages a quite delicate balance between the almost excessive quantities of malts and the hops. In its own way, there’s little doubt this is good stuff. Lots of similarities to Founder’s Devil Dancer, which I slightly prefer.

12oz brown bottle. Bottled on 3/20/09. Served in a Duvel tulip. Poured a bright gold/amber with a finger of off white head. Piny/citrusy hop aroma with a little alcohol, also a bit of oak. This started off with a good malt base. Not as much hop bitterness as the aroma might suggest. In the flavor, the oak is pretty subtle, mostly in the finish. Solid medium body. Good beer, nice balance.

Bottle, Mondiale 09. Dark orange, small white head. Nice hoppy aroma, some malt, some alcohol. Good taste - lots of hops, lots of malt. woody, very dry hoppy finish. Nice and quite strong.

This is my favor dogfish head beer!!!smells of plungent hops. Pours a nice light brown with a small sweet head. Nice hoppy flavor that is smoothed out by the aging in the oak. The amazing taste stays in your mouth for a time to let you linger in the greatness!!!! and great news it gets better with age!!!!!

Pours clear copper, with a thin beige head, good lacing. Smells of pine, grapefruit, grass, dough, and caramel. Medium-thick bodied, dry. Tastes of oak, grass, dough, just a hint of dark fruit. Long lasting, medium-bitter aftertaste, with subtle earthy and grassy hop notes.

clear copper pour, yellowish fizzy head and nice lacing. very floral, grassy aroma, pinapple, grapefruit and all that. also some oak and vanilla, though a bit faint. first thing in the taste is alcohol, leading to a very smooth, relatively mild (for DFH) bitter finish. there’s some sweetness to balance, maybe caramel and toffee, and also significant vanilla. thick creamy body, subtle carbonation. very nice.
