Gmoney (250), ManchVegas, New Hampshire, USA May 17, 2009 12 oz bottle.deep copper pour ,thin head no lacing.aromas of malt ,fruit ,oak ,alcohol and citrus hops.flavor is strong caramel, and raisin .alcohol is apparent. its a bit syrupy with a mild hop bitterness.very smooth and medium bodied. jumpjet2k (137), Austin, Texas, USA May 15, 2009 Bottle. Nice medium-dark amber color with a medium and fine light-tan head. Plenty of fruity, oaky malt comes through in the aroma along with some citrusy, fruity hops. Flavor comes with strong caramel, syrup, raisin malt, accompanied by a bit less hops than I’d expect from an IIPA. Still, the piney, citrusy hops do round out the flavor pretty well to make a very tasty beer. Nice palate, too. hoppopotamus (182), Santa Cruz, California, USA May 14, 2009 A grand looking reddish copper beer with a fluffy off-white head that sticks around and leaves lace. An extremely hoppy aroma, almost juicy in its fruitiness. Grapefruit, orange, and strawberry stick out. The flavor is again hop dominated, but there’s some serious syrupy caramel sweet maltiness in there. Bitter finish, but not as long and harsh as a lot of DIPAs. I really like this beer! Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA May 12, 2009 Delightful brew- amazing plentiful hop/citrus/grapefruit aroma and taste- but not overly bitter. There is a thick Oktoberfest-like maltiness in here that backs it up nicely. $9 per pint at The Abbey Miami Beach, cask. djtimeless (170), Florida, USA May 11, 2009 Pours out claer amber with creamy head. Smells sweet and piney. Sticky sweet with lots of bitter hops. Crisp but smoothed out from the wood. Good finish with slight alcohol warming. pressboxjoe (69), , New Jersey, USA May 11, 2009 Bottle. Aroma of piney hops, honey, oak, roses. For me this is very similar to the 90-Minute, which is one of my favorites, although the aroma is more complex and the flavor somewhat smoother. That said, $9.99 vs. $13.49 for a 4-pack makes the decision of which to purchase rather easy. WVHouseofBeer (339), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA May 10, 2009 I’m sorry, but this is really one of the best IPAs I have ever had, granted it is Imperial but nonetheless a gem from Dogfish Head. Anytime you 50/50 mix the 90 Minute IPA with anything, it is going to be delicious. Promise.
Aroma: Nice essence that is hop all the way, but not bitter to the nose, rather pleasing actually.
Appearance: Good copper tone, just a tad away from garnering a 5 in this category.
Flavor: IMO, this is how an IPA should taste. Tongue bounces from the hops with the oak aging coming out in the aftertaste.
Palate: The oak adds to the body, like a nice hop stew filling the mouth, nearly perfect carbonation.
Overall: This is a special beer indeed, only those who appreciate IPAs and the ability to vary from the usual hop bomb can really dig this beer. A perfect take on a popular style. smcolw (314), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA May 7, 2009 Orange-dark amber color with a slight haze to the liquid. Initial three-finger head retreats very slowly and leaves excellent ring lace on the glass.
Strong pineapple and grapefruit hop nose. Very fresh smell. Some raisin and current in the background. Superior.
Somewhat prickly on the initial sip--both in the carbonation and the citrus-like hop. Good body to counteract the effervescence. The malt does stand up but only in the background. The aftertaste is like sucking a hop pellet. Strong oily alcohol feel that is notable after the swallow as well.
I would put this in the category of extreme beers. It is delicious particularly for hop heads, but it would be extremely difficult to have more than one.
