3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 unclebleen (620) - California, USA - FEB 17, 2005
pours a bright orange color with a really excellent nose, caramel, hop, really nice. flavor is strange in the way it develops. it starts smooth and silky, becomes thick and slightly alcoholic and then finishes harsh and astringent. this is unlike anything i’ve ever had, but i don’t think it deserves some of the negative reviews it is getting. i agree it is not the 90 minute but without experimentation, we’d still be living in caves. Personally, I hope DFH continues its adventurous ways!
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hotdogs (13) - chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 17, 2005
carmel, pepper, plum, light smoke on the nose.
velvety mouthfeel. scotch, smoke, resin/pretty dry, light sweetness, punchy hops and really bitter. i think this beer needs a couple years of aging to bring out more of the complexity.
2.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 Maddog (348) - Kettering, Ohio, USA - FEB 17, 2005
For what I expected, especially coming from Dogfish, I was pretty disappointed. I thought this Imperial IPA would blow me away. It fell way short. It lacked body, malty flavors, and most importantly a hop presence. The initial hop nose was its greatest attribute, but it went downhill from there. Maybe, it shouldn’t have been blended down by 90 min. Don’t get me wrong, relative to most other beers, it is good, but when you label a beer an Imperial IPA, it better knock my socks off.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 ClarkVV (3578) - Allston, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 16, 2005
12 oz bottle. What a joke. This is an experiment gone wrong and what do they do instead of throwing it out? They blend it with 90 minute to mask the garbage that is the other half. I can respect them for wanting to make some money and not just throw away the batch, but still, this beer is about 50% hype and the other 50% is riding on 90 minute’s good name. I poured the last third of the bottle down the drain in disgust. Please don’t put this crap in my 90 minute, thank you.

Bottle. Thnaks to jeffc666 for this one! Rich amber body with a moderately sized tan head. Aroma is nicely hopped with light wood notes, citrus, pine needles, and light spice. Taste is light alcohol, fruit, woody notes, rich hops and light pine. Surprisingly fuller bodied than I expected. Mild carbonation and light alcohol warmth. Creaminess comes through in arts as well. Finish is more pine and hoppy citrus with light wood, maple syrup and mild spiciness. Some earthy notes as well.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ernest (5184) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 15, 2005
Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium amber. Aroma is moderately hoppy (apricot, grapefruit, resin), moderately malty (cookie), with a note of cask wood. Flavor is heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. The mouthfeel is very good, the balance is nice enough, and the alcohol is well-hidden, but the aroma is rather vague and uninteresting. Just doesn’t do that much.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 FROTHINGSLOSH (3388) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 14, 2005
UPDATED: JAN 10, 2011 This is a very interesting and unusual brew. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this brew pours a medium amber color with almost no carbonation at all. No had, almost no bubbles. Very flat. The aroma is sweet hops but little else. The mouthfeel is thick and sweet. The flavor is hoppy and sugary. It really felt like I was drinking a hop liquor.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 axilla (962) - New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 13, 2005
UPDATED: JAN 31, 2007 The aroma is mostly carmel with some grapefruit and, most unexpected, cheese? The body is a clear amber color with a cloying off-white head. Flavor is semi-sweet citrus and carmel with some wood notes. Very drinkable for 10%.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 SoLan (1550) - Florida, USA - FEB 12, 2005
UPDATED: FEB 7, 2006 Jan. ’05. Very similar to the 90 min IPA, but with oak undertones. I’d like to try this before they blended it with the 90 min. (9-4-9-4-17=4.3) Dec. ’05. Clear amber. Frothy tan head. Smells like resinous oak aged grapefruit pulp. Pungent aroma. Huge oak in this version. Exactly what was missing in the last release. Same huge hops and rich malt, only this time it’s like tapping the side of an oak tree and finding 90 min. inside. Big, balanced body. Alcohol is only faintly detectable in the aftertaste. One DFH’s best yet.
4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 DogfishKing (22) - USA - FEB 11, 2005
This is possibly the best Dogfish Head yet. I love the 90min and this is even better. Excellent mouthfeel, distinct oakyness and sweet at times but does not overwhelm the destinctive Dogfish dry hop. I would even go as far to say it is actually worth the 14 bucks/4pack. Absolutly Excellent.
