msante79 (784), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA Sep 26, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours hazy dark copper with thick off-white head. Aroma is floral hops, citrus, oak and caramel. Flavor is hops, citrus, oak, pine, vanilla and caramel malt. Oak really brings out the alcohol which gives this brew some barley wine characteristics. Nice brew from a brewery that likes to take risks. taalhiker (179), Dayton, Ohio, USA Sep 23, 2008 From bottle.
Pour = hazy amber with small head.
Taste = vanilla, caramel and hops. Slight taste of alcohol.
Finish = long and spicy....
afireinside96 (817), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 21, 2008 12oz bottle served in a snifter. Pours amber-orange with a light haze, topped by a small off-white head. Smells of citrusy hops, vanilla, fruity, biscuit. Hops integrate well with the flavors from the wood, also some vanilla and caramel. Body is thick and on the sweet side, not sticky or syrupy at all though. Very well done. Schultsc (478), Henderson, Nevada, USA Sep 11, 2008 Slightly hazy dark orange-amber with a thin, medium-dense, light tan head. Aroma is initially fruity alcohol, candied orange peel, and oxidation characteristics combined with vanilla oak, toffee, caramel, and a slight hint of hops aromas that finishes off with a sort aroma of "dampness." The flavor is quite sweet with lots of fruity malt with a background of of oxidized alcohol and oak. Very mildly bitter which shows mainly in the finish along with a little alcohol. The alcohol is well integrated into the body and is not hot at all. The sweetness is very prominient and the bitterness is not. This is a well put together beer from a technical standpoint, but is lacking something in terms of style. jeremyd365 (109), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Sep 10, 2008 Tried this one because it sounded like an interested combination: an English pale combined with their 90 minute IPA (which I already knew I loved). What happened, however, is that the 90 minute side seemed to completely dominate. So it DID taste good, but it was too much like the 90 to be anything special. The best thing that they got out of it was quite a delightful reddish-hue coloring. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 8, 2008 Tap Capital Ale House Downtown 08/28/2008. Floral Spicy hop nose with notes of wood and dark fruits. Mostly clear and well carbed with small off-white head. Plum raisin and alcohol warmth along with earthy floral hop flavor. Substancial bitterness and sherry wood overtones. Medium body with full creamy mouthfeel. Dry finishwith lingering spicy hop finish. Not an IIPA – a tasty barleywine.
