Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

12oz bottle served in a snifter. Pours amber-orange with a light haze, topped by a small off-white head. Smells of citrusy hops, vanilla, fruity, biscuit. Hops integrate well with the flavors from the wood, also some vanilla and caramel. Body is thick and on the sweet side, not sticky or syrupy at all though. Very well done.

Slightly hazy dark orange-amber with a thin, medium-dense, light tan head. Aroma is initially fruity alcohol, candied orange peel, and oxidation characteristics combined with vanilla oak, toffee, caramel, and a slight hint of hops aromas that finishes off with a sort aroma of "dampness." The flavor is quite sweet with lots of fruity malt with a background of of oxidized alcohol and oak. Very mildly bitter which shows mainly in the finish along with a little alcohol. The alcohol is well integrated into the body and is not hot at all. The sweetness is very prominient and the bitterness is not. This is a well put together beer from a technical standpoint, but is lacking something in terms of style.

Tried this one because it sounded like an interested combination: an English pale combined with their 90 minute IPA (which I already knew I loved). What happened, however, is that the 90 minute side seemed to completely dominate. So it DID taste good, but it was too much like the 90 to be anything special. The best thing that they got out of it was quite a delightful reddish-hue coloring.

Tap Capital Ale House Downtown 08/28/2008. Floral Spicy hop nose with notes of wood and dark fruits. Mostly clear and well carbed with small off-white head. Plum raisin and alcohol warmth along with earthy floral hop flavor. Substancial bitterness and sherry wood overtones. Medium body with full creamy mouthfeel. Dry finishwith lingering spicy hop finish. Not an IIPA – a tasty barleywine.

nose is of extreme oak and alcohol, it even smells syrupy. the flavor rings true to that characteristic and after a sip the nose intensifies. intense warmth off this one, the oaked character seems to have brought the alcohol to the forefront. somehow, its not intolerable at all though. nice dark color typical for the style, fruit (even dark/dried) is at a minimum, wood and booze at a maximum along with hops of course in full force. the sharp bitterness youd expect doesnt come through like a boring old american over hopped IIPA. this has alot of character and intregue, this is my 2nd sample and this one is aged close to 2 years, a wonderous brew that enjoys warmth and provides it as well.
