elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA Apr 22, 2008 12oz. Pours a dark reddish color with a off white head. Aroma is mostly citrus. Tastes of candied sugar, caramel, spice, wood, and some citrus. Finishes with a thick sweet taste on the palate. Very enjoyable. ksurkin (356), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Apr 22, 2008 12oz from G&G, poured into a snifter. pours a dark amber/brown, unfiltered, with a very small, white head. aroma is very sweet, similiar to the 90min. i pick up scents of grapefruit, hops, melon, and some malt along with a hint of alcohol. oak flavors really show up in the flavor. starts off sweet and hoppy with some hints of vanilla and oak. backend has good bitterness and is quite long lasting. mouthfeel is very smooth and drinkable and i can’t detect much of the 10%. overall, a very good specialty ale. scrizzz (1252), kirkland, Washington, USA Apr 21, 2008 spot on aroma of an oak aged ipa. beautiful copper color, dense white head. spot on indeed. oaky ipa is complex and warm and sexy and beautiful. spectacular. wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Apr 20, 2008 Tried at Dr Bills. Yet another 10% beer. I wish they would make more beers 10.1%, so I can increase my chances of making the most strong beers tried club. No biggie. Offwhite head. A little bit of cardboard oxidation. From bottle. Not sure of age. Not very drinkable. Veer (355), Landskrona, Sweden Apr 20, 2008 Aroma: sweet, smoky, hoppy, woody, berryish. Obscene, sweet exotic & dried fruit. heavy & coconut-like, yet the mind wanders toward northern millieus...
Flavour: initially sourish sweet, hoppy syrup... big biscuity & raisinlike malt, very good, full-bodied & charming.
Palate: very, very smooth & sugary, slightly rough.
Appearance: orange body w/ yellowish pale foam leaving syrupy lacing on the glass. TheSponge (272), Lynnwood, Washington, USA Apr 19, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a thick and foamy off-white head. Flavor: Very hoppy, with an obvious hint oak. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Apr 18, 2008 12 oz bottle courtesy of gunhaver. Poured into a tulip glass. Hazy burgundy colored with an inch of tan head that leaves massive lacing.
Aromas of grapefruit, vanilla, and a bit of boozy hotness.
Apparently this beer is a blend of 90 min IPA and an English Strong Ale, and it tastes just about how I’d expect it to. The IPA contributes the obvious grapefruity hoppiness, but it’s overpowered by the English notes of herbal hops and a tannic woodiness. Not as good as either style would be alone.
Mouthfeel is syrupy but well-carbonated. No alcohol apparent.
MadMan (497), Tempe, Arizona, USA Apr 17, 2008 Draft @ papago. A slightly hazy medium amber with off white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with a fair amount of hoppiness. Flavor is sweet with notes of fruit, most notably plum, pinneapple, and mango. Malty with notes of vanilla. Warm throughout with a good spicy bitterness at the end that almost offsets the sweetness. Kind of syrupy body on it. Had this in a snifter and let her warm up as I sampled. Took a while. Interesting, but I didn’t get another.
