3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 29, 2012
Bottle, thanks to thepeter. It pours orange-amber, with a foamy off-white head. The nose is wood varnish, pine, polish, spice and tinned orange fruit. The taste is pine, resin, caramel, wood, leaf, honey, sweet tinned fruit and toffee, with a long, bitter finish. Medium body , low-moderate carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Alcohol is well hidden. Decent.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 RSRIZZO (1679) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - MAR 28, 2012
12oz bottle poured into a snifter at 40°. Color is a deep golden with good carbonation and a soft head. Aroma is a huge hop scent of citrus, pine and hop spice. It has a full body with a rich mouth feel. Flavor is rich with caramel, a hint of oak and bold citrus. In the after taste the citrus turns to pine and a hint of alcohol shows, then at the very end the bitterness leaves you with a dry feel. Overall its a very good brew big and complex but not over done.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 crosamich (203) - Naples, Florida, USA - MAR 28, 2012
This is way more ashy wood than hoppy goodness as I like. Don’t know if DFH changed the recipe the last couple years but I taste the wood a lot more these days. Good hop flavor but missing a strong hop bouquet.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Scipio (185) - Vernon Hills, Illinois, USA - MAR 26, 2012
Pours a clear dark red with a thin white head. Aroma is very malty with some caramel and cherry. Palate is very thick. Taste is heavy on malt. Oak, caramel, and hops hide beneath this, and alcohol is very apparent. Quite complex, and many would be appreciative of something like this. For me? I did not enjoy this as much as I thought I would considering I usually enjoy this style.

Draught at Ginger Man, New York. Clear brown - offwhite head. Dried fruits. Alcoholic. Sharpness. Ok hoppy. Roasted. Rather high malty. wooden notes. No fresh hops.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 hoppyho (56) - Los Angeles, California, USA - MAR 20, 2012
Copper color. Thin head that leaves some lacing around the edge of the glass. Nose is heavy carmel/malt with an underlying hop background. Taste is quite sweet. Thick mouthfeel lends to the lingering, sticky sweetness.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 EvanFriend (63) - New York, USA - MAR 19, 2012
I like this one a lot. Very reminiscent of 90 Minute IPA, but with dried fruit and a more pronounced alcohol taste peeking though. Another hit from Dogfish Head.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (4097) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 17, 2012
Bottle shared at The Kernel during the Thomas Birthday Booze-Up, London, thanks to Peter. Pours clear, rich gold with a filmy white head. Rich bread and caramel aroma, with notes of pine hops. Big sweet flavor, some wood, pine, toffee, toasty sugar. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sticky, lightly warming finish, more resinous pine, ripe citrus, caramel. It’s a big beer, quite rich. This bottle is a few years old but there are still some piney hops in here. Lots of attenuated, toasty caramel sweetness. I like this stuff.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Anova167 (191) - Manhattan Beach, California, USA - MAR 16, 2012
This bad boy pours rust colored with a tight white head that dissipates rather quickly. The aroma is up front with caramel malt and some piney and earthy hops. There is a bit of that oaked tinged alcohol as well. The flavor is semi-cloying caramel malts followed by earthy hop character. The finish has some alcohol heat and is overly sweet. Perhaps I am biased towards traditional "west coast" hops, but this is not my favorite brew. Actually reminds of a 6 year old vintage Sierra Nevada celebration I recently had.
