Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

This one tasted more like a barleywine than a IIPA, although it didn’t have the bitey-ness that barleywines have. Basically, it tasted like an aged IIPA. The hops had mellowed out greatly. Thats probably what they were going for but I wasn’t terribly impressed with it. It was actually quite good though- I didn’t think the sweetness was too overpowering, the alcohol was well hidden, but basically I thought it would’ve been better with a stronger hops presence.

This beer pores reddish-brown copper color that is transperant. The head is pretty full with long-lasting lacing. It almost smells like a white wine with citrus, vanilla, and wood. Hops too. Wow, that is an interesting flavor. I definitely see how this grew out of the 90-minute IPA, but there is another level of complexity here from the aging process. Think 90 minute with a fuller palate, a pinch of vanilla sugar, and more alcohol in the aftertaste. An interesting creation.

Pours a dark copper color, with a sweet malt aroma. Tastes a sweet fruity flavor with a hint of hops and an oak. Pleasantly surprised with this one been waiting all month to find it.

12 oz. Bottle. Wow. Sits a deep ruby red color in my snifter with a small, lacy white head. Aroma is a bit hot, alcohol is noticeable as are some hints of oak and subtle dark fruit. Taste of citrus hops hits first, followed by a heavy caramel malt flavor and a slight burn from the alcohol at the end. Not bitter at all, but not too sweet either. This one is great now, but also exhibits good potential for aging. Would like to give it another shot in 6 months. Also I think the complexity of this beer comes through better when served at a slightly warmer temperature. Unique.

This isn’t an IIPA. I don’t know what it is. Way to sweet. Aroma heavy of caramel and alcohol. Taste is almost sickeningly sweet followed by an alcohol warmth. The hops are hidden.

Thanks to hopdog for this beer. Pours a copper with off-white nice sized head. Floral, wood and hops on the nose. Flavor is sweet hoppy and bourbon like. Thick and rich texture, can really taste and feel the alcohol. Really didn’t finish with a ton of hops as I was expecting. Very well balanced.

Pours orange/amber with thin off white head. Aroma of syrup. Mild notes of oak in the taste with little hops. A ton of sweetness in this brew, just like almost all the Dogfish beers. Not much 90 minute noticed in this. Not impressed.

A deep clean amber pour. Rich sweet maltiness and hops on the nose. Really sweet flavor with a light bitter finish. Palate is about as full as you could hope for a palate to be carbonation is good a very solid beer. A beer I liked very much and had for a long time. Not as hoppy as I would like a IIPA but I’d had this beer almost a year.
