AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Dec 11, 2007 Updated: Sep 1, 2008Trade from sweet Lou18. Amber color with almost no head. Nose is somewhat sweet with pineapple accents and fruity undertones. Flavor is awesome, with a sweetness and fruit charactaristic mixed with a bit of heat and oak. Mid to full mouthfeel. jon112981 (327), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Nov 30, 2007 12 oz. Bottle. Great mix between hoppy and sweet. I don’t really taste the fruits that others have. It goes down quite easy. ajm (903), Los Angeles, California, USA Nov 25, 2007 Updated: Oct 29, 2008Honestly, this tastes to me like the 120. Undoubtedly oaky, hoppy and with the merest hints of cranberry and raspberry. Very thick and so hopped it begins to taste round. Hard to find, but have seen it with some regularity at Papago Brewery in Scottsdale, AZ. kapusta (84), Dover, Delaware, USA Nov 21, 2007 Hoppy and oaky at the same time. Nice flavor and nice fullness. Rich, with a sweet hoppiness, but also malty enough to have body. Very easy drinking, but the alcohol is noticable, unlike most of the Dogfish Head family. Hank1980 (734), Athens, Georgia, USA Nov 16, 2007 Updated: May 27, 2008 Pour is amber and tan brown with a thick off-white head. Nose is sweet with caramel. Taste is well balanced malt and hoppiness with warm alcohol finish. Other flavors are vanilla and oak. Full mouthfeel.
troopie (851), USA Nov 7, 2007 Bottle. Dark amber orange body with thin white head. Much lacing. Faint aroma, raisins and spice. Full body with alcohol, raisins, toffee, spice and malt. Long lasting finish, more raisins. I question whether this is a DIPA as it is not heaviuly hoppy like a DIPA. This is more of an American strong. Beerlando (2284), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 1, 2007 Clear, dark orange-amber body. Small, quickly dissipating, cream colored head. The wispy film left in its wake has a small, frothy edge and a bubble island in the center. The aroma shows sweet caramel, toffee, maple syrup, oak, and vanilla. Very slightly bitter citrus appears on the nose in the form of an orange juice reduction. The flavor is very sweet and syrupy. Maple sugar, caramel, oak, and copious amounts of vanilla comprise the malt base. A minimal amount of citrus hop bitterness does little to balance out the massive sweetness. Medium-full, syrupy, sticky body. Short, sweet finish. I’m not sure about the age of this beer, but it is almost certainly past its prime. While there is a nice enough flavor profile, the hops have all but completely faded, leaving behind an overly sweet barleywine in the place of what should be a IIPA. I’ll try this one again fresh if I can. tsarman (794), Northern, New Jersey, USA Oct 28, 2007 Very strong. Has the odd hazy orange color of several Dogfish head beers. Pretty hoppy, but high abv leads to it having a sticky sweet feeling.
