Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

Pours an amber color with medium head. Very sweet aroma with some pine. Taste was sweet as well with some oak and citrus. The alcohol is quite hot in this beer.

nice color and taste, love good IIPA’s like this one :) a little on the tame side with bitterness, could’ve had a bit more.

Quite interesting....and quite sweet. and not in a "sweet dude!" kind of way. This is not what I would’ve expected to be a double IPA, and I was a bit disappointed.

12 oz bottle, via cewldre. Pours a clear copper body under a small fizzy off-white head that faded to a partial covering. The nose is big resinous hops over a very sturdy toffee and caramel malt base. Very light but noticable oakiness. Quite unique among IIPAs, the sweet caramel and toffee malt are in the forefront with only moderate bitterness. A little vanilla, oak, and hot alcohol. A slight huskiness emerges late with lots of brown sugar. Mouthfeel is full bodied, just shy of syrupy with lots of sticky risidual sugars. Moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, I’d call this interesting, but not especially great.

Frost-hazed pure amber with minor carbonation under a full and slow-fading ecru head (leaving the latticework of an overweight spider). Low vegetals burn off to crisp toffee, tart grasses and ricotta cheese. (It may sound weird, but it’s actually quite mouthwatering to me.) Big, BIG sweetness to start. Wow. Sugar sweet. Hints of bitters and drier caramels behind, but this cloys beyond belief. Sugary/sticky mouth. Piney bitters in aftertaste albeit sugar-coated. 10% is well hidden (but to what effect?). If you have a sweet-tooth, grab this baby.... but I found it hard to down a 12 oz. bottle by myself.

<font size=-4>I bought a couple 12 oz. bottles awhile back from <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Places/ShowPlace.asp?PlaceID=1477>Archer Liquors, Chicago, IL 60638</font>

Spring ’07 12-oz. bottle. Pours a fizzy, cloudy, peachy orange with almost no head (although swirling the glass temporarily generates a nice creamy topping). Aroma is intensely malty and sweet, but with a bit of citrus and a definite smoked character - the best comparison is of ham candied with brown sugar. Flavor is similar but with more pronounced citrus notes, reminiscent of the 90 min IPA (for obvious reasons). This is indeed sweet but with some bitterness to balance and a very pleasant flavor. Mouthfeel is full and smooth, alcohol is hidden well beneath the intense and sweet flavors. While it is definitely not a session beer, and not as complex as say DFH’s Immort Ale, this is a unique and tasty ale, pushing the envelope on the style. ***Re-rate...2008 bottle: very hot compared to 2007. Lowered palate and overall and flavor ratings a notch accordingly.

Pours a murky orange colour with a medium off white head. Strong aroma of grapefruit hops and slight malty. Initial taste is a very sweet malt, syrupy, caramel. Finishing with slight hint of hops and oak. Alcohol is well hidden. A little too sweet for me.
