Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

Coming on the heels of Avery the Beast, this is so tame by comparison. Just a regular ol’ Oak Aged Imperial India Pale Ale, nothing to get worked up about. I guess I can pick out a bit of that advertised oak character, but wouldn’t really know without being told. It’s oily-slick and syrupy-sweet, but so much more subdued than the Beast. In another context, this 10 percenter could kick your ass. This is like your Hulkster to your Andre the Giant. Script it right, and the Burton Baton could win, but in reality the Beast beats it down. At the same time, it doesn’t have the sickeningly cloying mutant-caricature quality of the Beaster. I’d go back to this one again first.

Poured copper with fluffy off white head. Aroma of sweet malt and citrus. Not what I expected. Big sweet malt flavor with hints of candy and citrus. Chewy. Way to sweet. Not what I expected at all. More of a mellow barley wine than IIPA.

Thanks to Juancho. No really what I expected from an Imperial IPA. Tastes more like a Barley Wine. Very sweet.

12oz bottle via trade with someone. Thanks. Pours orange amber with a thin tan head that has faded from something a bit larger. The nose is sweet oaky and a bit hoppy. The taste is sweet, almost too sweet and a bit high on alcohol. Haven’t had 90 in a while but this is a bit too cloying and sweet for me.

Bottle. Dogfish Head Rehoboth Beach. Very similar to 90 min with a little more woody taste. 90 min is fairly perfect when it comes to an IPA. Seems like they tried to over do it. Maybe just that i don’t want anything but the best. Not a bad beer, but be ready for the hops as with any Dogfish IPA.

This beer was poured into a stem glass with a huge frothy head to it. It has a nice abmer color with smells of hops and malt and earthy aromas. It has a very swet taste it is also tart and leaves a lasting impression on your palate.

Very cloear copper colour- surprisingly so. Perhaps quite filtered. Not much head to speak of, some minor lacing. Smell- smells quite sugary. Taste- very sweet wtih the woods fairly pronounced. Medium cabonation. Slightly boozy with caramel and doughy malts in forefront. The hops are more herbal and grassy than bitter citrus. It finishes decently though- not too much cloying sweetness on the finish. The vanilla and wood really shows up on the finish too. Hops are kind of an afterthought in this beer. Drinkability is decent- it is a slow sipper. Quite enjoyable, not an every day beverage.
