redlem (1155), Illinois, USA Jun 16, 2007 Seeing the picture takes me back to the old 90 minute bottles, I miss those 750’s. Well I had a 12 oz bottle and I did not care for it much. I dont care for oak-barrel aged IPA’s as I dont think they work very well. The aging subdues the hops making this a BW, IMO. A dark brown color, small head. Taste and aroma are sweet. The main thing I got out of this was it tasted old, sort of like some British bottled beers we get over here in the US. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jun 13, 2007 thanks to dsnowden for this one!!
Pours a great dark orange/aber color, big thick white head. Aroma is hoppy, but not what you would expect from a DIPA, the aroma is also quite sweet. Flavour is again, sweet, and smooth, and the alcohol definitely warms the throat. I can really taste the oak, and the subtle vanilla notes. The finish is quite sweet, and i’m not getting the bitter punch i expected, a nice beer. NOt your typical hop bomb, but very nice, the oak ageing was a nice touch. greenhorn1 (458), Mission Viejo, California, USA Jun 9, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber with a small head. Aroma of sweet sugary caramel malt, mild fruitiness, and some barrel notes. Flavor is very unique, very sweet carmel with a mild oakness to it. There is also some mild fruitness (orange, cherry) in the back and definitely vanilla. Medium and velvet mouthfeel. Interesting brew, very nice after a hearty dinner, but certainly not true to a hopped up NW imperial IPA, which I prefer. jtw (942), farmington, Michigan, USA Jun 5, 2007 12 oz bottle pours out like a IIPA, amber in color and light-to-medium in carbonation. moderately sweet malt but probably deceptively bitter with hops likely subdued because of a strong oak presence. the taste is quite sweet and not nearly as bitter as i expected - actually, it’s pretty well-balanced and the oak is a nice "cool" flavor. it’s certainly not what i expected , and certainly nothing like a normal IIPA, but i like it, so i’ll still score it well! ksigty (107), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA Jun 3, 2007 Cloudy amber in color. Very nice head and full of flavor. For an IPA this is too sweet, not at all bitter. Mellow aftertaste is pleasant. Good in small doses. Definitely plan on spending some time to finish this. BuckeyeBoy (1639), Boise, Idaho, USA Jun 2, 2007 12oz Bottle pours out a light copper topped with a nice head. A very sweet aroma along with some spice. Not a lot of hop for a double. Just a little wood on it. But the tast was great I realy liked this one. boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 1, 2007 Bottle... Poured a burnt orange color with a big head... Citrus malt, and sugary aroma. Flavors of sweet sugar/syrup, apricots, caramel, oak, malt with a nice bitter hop finish. This is a nice treat. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada May 29, 2007 Small bottle shared with two others. Orange amber. Light white head. Light orange and alcohol nose. Orange hop liqueur taste. Where’s the wood? The idea was good but...
