Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

This was a very cool IPA> It had some nice aormas of spices and hops. The notes on the palate were long and flavorful. Nice effort!

Nice dark orange color with creamy white head. Faint hoppy nose with a hint of oak. Oaky sweet malt flavor with some citrus hop hints.

One of my very favorite beers. Pours a nice orange-copper color with lots of fine streams of bubbles. Aroma is somewhat lacking. Flavor of sweet grapefruit and maybe a little pineapple throughout, oak, some caramel, with a nice crisp, only moderately bitter aftertaste. Despite the less-than-typical hoppiness, this year’s blend reminds me more of Dogfish Head’s 90 Minute IPA and seemed to have a little less oak character than last year’s batch, but that’s a nit. Highly recommended.

12oz. Bottle: Hoppy aroma with lots of oak and caramel and a bit of alcohol. Poured a perfect amber color with a small, off-white head that diminished. Very small lacing. Clear. Slightly sparkling. Flavor is quite sweet. Tastes of oak, brown sugar, caramel, and some hops. Not as bitter or hoppy as I had expected. Medium body. Tingly mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Long, malty but lightly bitter finish.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from the Coffee Grounds in Eau Claire, WI. Pours a deep ruby brown brew with a thin white head. Aroma has herbal hops, caramel, some brown sugar, vanilla and sweet Hawaiian style bread. Taste is on the dry side with a pine/citrus finish. Alcohol is a bit on the wee-heavy side.

Bottle. Another that I would classify as a beer that, after the first sip, I want to stick my face in. I thought this beer was excellent. Just a beautiful pour, deep copper with red highlights, and a fluffy whit head that lasted. Very malty and sugary and but balanced very nicely. Thick mouthfeel and a slick, velvety finish.

Aroma was slighty fruity, nothing too enticing. The appearance was a nice copper color, decent head. The flavor was surprising...this is supposed to be an IPA, but I didn’t sense any hoppy bitterness. In fact, it was fairly sweet. Very sweet. And the alcohol was VERY well hidden. It’s definitelt in there, because I’m really feeling the buzz. The mouthfeel was a medium thickness, and an ok finish. Not a bad beer by any means, but it’s not what you might expect.
