badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA May 2, 2007 almost a drain pour..absolutely cloying in every manner..smells like an old, dead IIPA that is way to heavy in sugar and malt...an almost offensive flavor that is much to sweet..sugar, sugar, sugar, honey,sugar,sugar,sugar.....blech...if i had this again i would pour this shit outside during the summer to collect moths... Silphium (2117), Haslett, Michigan, USA May 1, 2007 Bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Clearish copper body, thin, almost non-existent off-white head. Strong aroma of piney hops, oak, and alcohol. The body was almost sickly sweet with an overabundance of sugars, overwhelming the bitter, citrusy hops. Sugar, oak, and alcohol do not a great beer make. Cloying and highly disappointing. grandet (477), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 30, 2007 Very sweet and complex, copper in color and an off white head. Probably will get better with age crazyvin (1246), New York, USA Apr 29, 2007 copper body, with a slightly off white head, mild lacing. Really sweet, actually too sweet. Strong caramel, vanilla, and sugar cane notes with some subtle oak notes. Some hops at the end. Alcohol was wickedly hidden. Good beer, could have been less sweet. Maybe some aging can mellow this out. fakepurseninja (773), Washington, USA Apr 29, 2007 Not what I expected. Very sweet, with rich and creamy, caramel malt body. Very heavy bodied with somewhat heavy carbonation. Almost Port wine like in with its lingering sweet finish. Where did they put the hops in this drink? Bitterness is drowned out by the malty sweetness, however small grapefruit notes are present. There are lots of peach and fig as well. Very complex but not what one would expect from a IIPA - it tastes more like an American Strong Ale - earily similiar to the Arrogant Bastard Ale by Stone. As much as I can complain about the nomenclature (I was really jonesing for a solid IIPA) this is a fantastic brew. Alochol well hid. Pick one up if you see it. Cappadonna (104), Delray Beach, Florida, USA Apr 28, 2007 Pours translucent copper with off-white foamy head. The malt dominates the usually pine small in Dogfish IPA’s. It’s sweet smelling and has notes of brandy. The beer taste sweet as well all the way through with some bitterness coming in towards the end. A bit syrupy. An interesting beer, but not one I’m dying to buy more of. beerluvindave (194), Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 28, 2007 Very sweet double IPA. The complexity of the brewing process is apparent as you take your first sip. Woody and vanila at the same time... hints of it’s 90-minute component... madcow75 (425), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA Apr 25, 2007 Bottle. Pours clear amber with a thin off white head. Aroma is of mostly sweet caramel malt, some oak and some faint hops. Taste again is sweet caramel, a little vanilla rounded out with a decent bitter hop bite. Finish is bitter. Warming from the alcohol. Interesting brew, the sweetness is there the whole time, but it is not over the top, a little hot from the alcohol.
