This is a very smooth and balanced beer; the hops a prevalent but the malt and oak really round the edges.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 20, 2009 The sharp hoppy bitterness hits you hard, blended well with burnt malt flavor and some underlying fruit sweetness. The alcohol makes itself known, and leaves a nice warming feeling. At 10% and packed with hoppy flavor, only a few will do the job. 3Faveryrogue (80), Asslip, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 20, 2009 Amber pour, not much head. Hoppy citrus and oak notes in the aroma. Grapefruit, bubblegum, orange, and woodiness on palate. Carbonation makes this velvety smooth, and overly drinkable. The oak linger and 50/50 blend didnt seem to temper the 90 minute bite. Alcohol is well hidden, thankfully. Dmalone102 (217), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 17, 2009 From a 12 oz bottle purchased in Littleton, CO.
Aroma- Resiny, floral, some orange character, maybe a little minty from the glacier hops. Great aroma, makes my mouth water. It has a sweet and spicy note as well (phenols?)
Appearance- Orange to copper color, very clear. Creamy, off-white head.
Flavor- Gooey, sweet maltiness with a huge, plush blanket of citrus hop flavor. Bitterness does a great job balancing but does not detract from the flavor. I am in heaven. I don’t percieve the oak, but there is a smoothness which might represent that ingredient.
Palate- Lots and lots of sweetness. There is a little hop-derived dryness at the end, but not because of attenuation. Not to say that the beer isn’t attenuated well for the original gravity, because it is.
Overall- The only knock on this beer is the residual sweetness. It could be just a tad dryer. That doesn’t mean that it wasn’t thouroughly enjoyable though, because it is! Hopcrazy (27), Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 17, 2009 12 oz bottle. pours a clear dark copper with a medium head. Lots of thick lacing. Aroma is complex with raisin and hoppy floral notes. Taste is a deep and complex surprise. Not what I expected for an IPA. Dark fruits and a hoppy bitter finish. Very nice for a complex ale - almost trappiest-like. sinkr (212), Lusby, Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 17, 2009 Bottle->tulip: pours a large, creamy, off-white head that exhibits spare lacing atop a clear, amber body. Aroma of caramel, resin, and cheese. The body is medium, texture creamy, and has lively carbonation, ending astringently. The flavor’s duration is long, being moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Not a bad beer, but I don’t understand this beer’s place in Dogfish Head’s lineup considering both the 90 and 120 minute IPAs. PJClarke (620), London, Greater London, England

Deep red with an off white, puffy head. Typical imperial IPA aromas with a hint of double cream and vanilla ice-cream. VEry orangy in the mouth but still very creamy. Peaches and cream maybe? That is really very nice. The bitterness is relatively controlled and deliciously smooth. The peachy/apricot flavour is what really sticks with you. This is a remarkably delicate beer, not what I as expecting.
