The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

Bottle to a snifter - cloudy rust color with a good head. Nose is malt and oak with an earthy hop taste. The mouthfeel is better than average and smooth. The finish is where the alcohol comes in. A good beer but I probably wouldn’t get four more at $16 a 4-pack.

I never rated Dogfish beers because I didn’t want to put out too much negativity but this one, I actually enjoyed in 2009-2010. Pours a brown color with an amber tint and average head. Smell is bourbonn oak, plum, caramel malt, orange skin and toffee. Medium to fuller body with less than avg carb. Couldn’t drink this now but enjoyed it back in the day

Bottle. Amber in colour, white and small head. Aroma is malty with light fruitiness, not much of hops left just some pine, finish is oaky. Full bodied, the beer is medium sweet with caramel, biscuits and solid bitterness. Oily texture, soft carbonation, light warming effect in finish. Really good Barleywine-ish beer.

12oz bottle. Pours a hazy rich amber with a large off-white head. Aroma is oak, malt, pine, and light fruit. Taste is sweet caramel up front followed by citrus, pine, oak, whiskey, and toffee. Resiny, piney finish. Strong bitterness. Full body. Average carbonation.

Pours copper with a thick off white head. Aroma of caramel malts and pine. Initial flavour is sweet caramel and oak and finishes with a resiny pine bitterness. A very complex beer.

Pretty awesome. It has the taste and feel of an old ale with punch of hops. The bitterness is strong but somewhat subtle to the toffee, burnt sugar, and leather flavors that give way to a rich and delicious body. The bitterness helps with the cloying sweetness. 10% abv that’s sneaky.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a thick beige head and good lacing. Smells of sweet malt and complex hops. Tastes about as good as a beer can get with extremely complex flavors. The aftertaste is sweet and bitter, with lingering flavors. This beer is absolutely amazing.

Pours a golden amber with a tight off-white head that is fairly persistent. The aroma is a subtle citrus with resin & malt. There's a big malt flavor with subtle grapefruit and a note of vanilla & bourbon .... the texture is creamy on the palate with a quick dry finish of hope resin. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a hazy and slightly browned gold with a decent white head. Nose is a strong blend of floral hops, ripe fruit, and oak barrel. Flavor is quite complex, with a good balanced IPA showing through on the front and a touch of whiskey on the back. Finish is semi-sweet and earthy. Very good

Draft at the Bierreri on 5th Ave NYC. This beer was part of a flight of local beers. It was the best of the flight. The ale had a distinctive creamy head with lacing. The ale poured a clear Amber color. The aroma of caramel malts and fruits greet you. The full bodied ale has average carbonation. This ale is special and a winner. The finish was clean as I drained the glass.
