Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

Oaky, with alcohol notes, with subtle citrus notes on the nose. Pours amber with a thin white head. Smooth oak right up front, bitter hops, citrus, grapefruit skins, with some pine resin in the flavor, finishes oaky with a lot of hop flavor still. This finish is a little sticky. Very nice!

12 oz bottle from Oak Tree. Pours a clear orange/amber body with a good amount of clingig carbonation and a large frothy white head that leaves a nice slick of tight foam. Aroma is probably the best part of this beer with lots of oak, pine resin, vanilla, orange and grapefruit. Body is fuller with a good dose of carbonation for a beer that sat in a barrel for four months and some noticable alcohol heat but still not that much considering this beast is 10%. Original flavor is all cat piss but luckily that quickly fades and other notes emerge like fermenting orange, vanilla, wood, some more fruitiness, and caramel round out this one. The flavor takes a little while to develop and luckily it did otherwise I would have been real let down for the price tag on this one is definitely on the wrong side of the bell curve.

2006 Bottle. Fresh. Clear dark orange pour. Head is a thin film of creamy white lace. Aroma is alcoholic and overly sweet. Flavor is cloyingly sweet and quite nasty. Undrinkable.

12 oz bottle. Orange and clear with a light tan head. Aroma is of malty bourbon and cold cuts. Malty rich flavor with slight alcohol. Aged hop bitterness present in finish. To the dry side-not too sweet. Very much like a barley wine.

12 oz bottle. Clear amber with a frothy off-white head. Orange juice concentrate, candy corn and caramel. Taste is equally sweet. Pineapple and strawberry grow into lemon peel. Brief bittering but malts win out. Fairly light body considering the dense flavor. Alcohol finish with woody drying.

Powerfully oaky and hoppy aroma and flavor. Caramelly sweet malts balance it out.
