Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

The beer cascades from the 12 ounce bottle a slightly bemused orange amber color with a generous bright creamy white head that very slowly dissipates, leaving the lace to forms tight concealing curtain. Nose is filled with fruit aromas, banana, peaches, cumquats, (just kidding about the cumquats), pleasant oak like tartness, strawberry cotton candy sweetness also noted. Front has a delectable toasted grain profile with the vanilla tartness at the back, also, the alcohol, makes an appearance, top is medium in feel to the palate. Finish has perky acidity, the hop flowers spicy and the alcohol warms the tummy, sweetly dry aftertaste sticks mightily to the palate, this is a magnificent beer, oak-aged 90 minute ale, toasted malt, and the snap of the alcohol, “WOW”!

12oz. bottle: This one pours a hazy orangish color. There was a bit of an off-white head that drops off quickly and leaves no lacing. This has an interesting aroma. It is much more like a Belgian than an Imperial IPA. Caramel, fruitiness and some alcohol to the nose. Perhaps a hint of the oak also. The taste has some caramel sweetness to it, as well a slight citric hop taste, but no real bite like you would expect from an Imperial IPA. I am really enamored by this beer. Hard to really classify, but excellent.

Amber color with a beige head. Aroma of citrus hops with some malt and wood notes. Flavor of citrus hops, tangy fruit and pepper.

Thanks John! Clear amber body with a short-lived white head. Cookie caramel malt backing with subdued pine sol / lemon citrus hops. Bitter oaky notes in in the flavor. A subdued IIPA but unique in its own right.

Bottled. Amber coloured. Light brown dense head. Sweetness, pines and dense herbal notes in the nose. Flavour is piney, fruity and sweet. Herbs present as well. One of the most smooth 2IPA’s I’ve tried. Very balanced. Medium to full bodied. Lacks a bit in the hopfresshness, but this might be due to the time its spend in my cellar. Ends on a smooth bitterness. Well hidden alcohol. Thanks to BBB63 and DavidP for trading this mighty brew to me. One is good but 2 is better.

This is a good Double IPA. Nice cobination of sweet malt, hop, and citrus flavors. Finishes clean, smooth, and crisp.

(Rating #2079)

Another great beef from DFH. Had this on tap at their ale house in Virginia. Spectacular aroma, a medium body, and oh that flavor. Very malty, caramel, and a long finish. This stuff is great.
