Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

Amber color with nice head for an IPA. Strong hoppy aroma. Flavor is hoppy but also sweet. Decent.

Pours a clear amber with a moderate and lasting head and minimal lace. Aroma is sweet - maple syrup, yum! Malty, sweet and woodsy flavour - hops backgrounded. Piny, and woodsy. Good carbonation, creamy body. Very tasty, but also very strong. A sipper for sure - yum!

Pours a nice ruby color with a small white head. The aroma is overwhelmingly piney and amazing! It’s got some real sweet malt aromas with a nice hoppy zest to it. There’s a malty sweetness with some residual sugar taste. Very sweet with a quick snap of bitterness. The mouth feel is really nice, its medium bodied in your mouth but feels like it almost expands. An amazing beer that is great for sipping.

Nice floral hop aroma. Very nice malt/hop aroma. DEEP copper color. Very nice thin head sitting on top. A very aromatic beer indeed. Nice smooth flavor. Very nice for an imperial/double IPA. There is a bit of an alcohol burn. Nice focus on the bitter flavor(s). Nice deep bittering hop taste. Overall, damn good beer, but too much presence of alcohol. I wouldn’t say that the oak had much of a presence.

I really liked this beer once I got paste the initial few sips. I say that because I expected it to taste like an imperial ipa, but instead it tasted like an old ale or a barleywine. It was good, and very enjoyable, but if I hadn’t seen the label, I wouldn’t have thought it was an ipa.

12oz. Pours a dark reddish color with a off white head. Aroma is mostly citrus. Tastes of candied sugar, caramel, spice, wood, and some citrus. Finishes with a thick sweet taste on the palate. Very enjoyable.

12 oz. bottle - clear and dark, reddish amber; thick, soapy cream colored head settles to the edges; aromas of soapy hops, wood and sweet malts; slightly hot as it drinks creamy and mostly smooth; bitterness is nicely muted by the malts; flavors of vanilla and oak; malty sweet over the bitterness; pretty nice

’05 Bottle: Courtesy of the man himself, mgumby10...thanks! As soon as I popped the top on this I received a rush of exquisite aromatics. Murky brown/orange with no head. Sweet malts hit the nose immediately with a strong oak tinge...caramel notes, dark fruits (raisins, etc.) and amazingly enough finishes with a smoothed out blast of hops. Very smooth mouth feel...starts off slightly sweet leading to an oaked malt base with a dry, hopped up finish. I’m astounded that this is still holding some hop essence in it after 2.5 years. Very good stuff...now I just need to try it fresh.
