The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

Bottle. Pours a nice amber color with medium off-white head. Aroma of hops, malt, oak-wood and some citrus. Taste is semi sweet with a bit of hop bitterness in the end. Alcohol is well balanced with the malt to give this brew a smooth semi sweet finish. Good brew!

12 oz. bottle served in a shaker- poured an evenly turbid solid copper color when held to a light source, thin white ring about the glass for a head, aroma of oak, pine, and resin. Hits the mouth with a wide body, malt is a bit uneven on the feel but wasn’t drowned to death with caramel- although some sneaks in the middle, finish is acidic to a point, but kind of slips and becomes a bit acrid. It’s alright.

Pours cloudy copper with nearly flat head. Aroma of resin, citrus, grapefruit, peach. Taste is medium resin bitter with a peach and mango sweet finish. Somewhat boozy at the end. Medium to rich body with soft carbonation.

Orange, small head. Malty aroma with some with some pine, resins. Resiny, sticky and malty. Medium to full bodied. More like a barley wine. Quite nice.

Hoppy but not piney by any means. Very complex with a whole lot going on. One of my all time favorite beers of any style.

Bottle. It poured a dark copper color with an off-white head. The aroma was of citrus, resinous hops, malt sweetness and some oakiness. The taste was similar to the aroma with more resinous hops, citrus, malts and more oak. It had a medium body with a nice bitter finish. Very well done, need to get another one.

Nice tropical hops with a very slight amount of oak that pairs well with the earthiness of the hops. Flavors of peach, pineapple, and Demerara sugar.

A light orange pour with a fluffy white head. The aroma is hoppy and sweet. Flavor is strong. Lots of hops, a silky sweet body. Light finish with hops and alcohol.

Pours a somewhat cloudy dark copper-red with visible bubbles. A sudsy khaki head leaves some nice lacing. Beautiful piney hops ring out in the aroma. Sweet and malty, with a heavy oakiness. Like walking through a forest after a rain. Nice. The flavor stays true to the aroma. Oak is the leader, but I also pick up bright green apples and some dark fruit flavors and piney hop bitterness. Vibrant flavors, extremely well-balanced. Full-bodied; medium carbonation. Noticeable alcohol burn, but not one that clashed with the style. An excellent offering from DFH. I could easily have another. And another. And another. AGING NOTES: Bottled Oct. 16, 2009, tasted Nov. 11, 2010. Decided to open a single bottle of this I’d been aging to celebrate the premier of Brewmasters. After 18 months of aging, the oak emerges in force. Paired perfectly with orange peel, the vanilla character of the oak gives this an almost creamsicle character. The alcohol heat is still noticeable in the throat, but has rounded out nicely. The flavors are subdued a bit, but have melded. Wouldn’t say it’s improved, though. Better fresh.
